Abstract
Multimedia records typically receive less attention because they are not as well-known as printed materials in numerous developing nations. Because of this, the multimedia archive preservation of the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) is not particularly noteworthy. In order to provide multimedia archive preservation and design techniques and technologies used to preserve multimedia materials in the context of the EBC, the goal of this thesis is to examine the current issues impacting the company.
The study used a mixed methodology and a descriptive research design. Relevant information for this study data was acquired from both sources, both primary and secondary. Original data was acquired. Through a questionnaire from the 32 selected respondents, interview with 11 purposively selected respondents and direct observation. Secondary data sources such as Operation manuals, reports that have been published and unpublished, and other pertinent paperwork were also used.
The finding of this study demonstrates that poor preservation policy implementation, funding restrictions, inadequate environmental safeguards, under-trained personnel, and technology Out datedness is the difficulties impeding the work of EBC's archival staff. The findings of this study will increase awareness of the significance of properly preserving audio-visual records for future use.
Additionally, it is hoped that the study's conclusions will encourage policymakers and decisionmakers to create and carry out training and development initiatives that enhance knowledge and methods for protecting audio-visual records in EBC. The results of this study will also help decision-makers become more interested in creating long-term strategies to preserve audiovisual records. It is anticipated that the results of this study will provide guidance for the creation and management of functional archival repositories that are prepared to handle archival records at EBC and at the national levels. The main goals of a study should be to advance practice, develop policy, and add to the corpus of existing knowledge. The study suggested that EBC should create and put into practice a policy for the preservation of multimedia content, set aside adequate funds for digitalization, and empower personnel by providing ongoing training in multimedia preservation.
