Abstract

Organisations are facing ever-increasing challenges, brought on by marketplace pressures. Many organisations are now looking to Knowledge management (KM) to address these challenges. Such initiatives are often started with the development of a Knowledge management strategy. The study investigated the Knowledge management strategy practice in United Bank of Ethiopia. In addition, the study identified the business strategy of the Bank and the possible suggestion to align with Knowledge management strategy. Finally, based on the findings of the study the researcher proposed a knowledge management strategy that could enhance the performance of the organization. Mixed method of data collection, which employed both quantitative and qualitative methods, was used from March, 2016 to May, 2016. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to a total of 110 employees in the organization. SPSS Version 20.0 was used for data analysis. The findings showed that there is no awareness about Knowledge management strategy among employees. The result also showed the business strategy of the organization prepared independently with Knowledge management. So the researcher proposed that EUB should make a direct connection between organization Knowledge assets and positive business result, identifying how Knowledge management strategy will support the Bank’s business strategy and identifying which specific Knowledge domain the organization will focus on. The study concludes that, since Knowledge management strategy is very important for organizations to enhance their competitive advantage, the organization should create an awareness of knowledge management strategy among employees.
