The main objective of this study was to identify the major challenges of customs clearing services to provide timely clearance of goods and their implications on international trade. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, the researcher used both qualitative and quantitative research. The research design that was implemented for this study was descriptive where data obtained from respondents and secondary data collected from the concerned customs stations were recorded, described and analyzed. The findings of this study showed that the challenges of import and export clearance mainly depend on human resource management and development, cooperation and coordination, automation, customs valuations as well as customs risk management. The ranking by respondents showed customs valuation, cooperation and human resources and development are the forefront challenges of customs clearing.
