| dc.description.abstract | This research was initiated with the objective of investigating impacts of Enset(Enseteventricosum) root mealy bug. To achieve this objective the researcher used semi-structured interview and questionnaire. The consequence of Enset root mealybug(Cataenococcus enset) with the ultimate goal of helping in constructing the scientific basis for the preservation and sustainable use of the plant in Kembata Zone, Ethiopia. The district, Kadida represents major Agro-Ecological Zones. Six kebeles were purposively selected for this study. Then a total of 100 respondents were included randomly in the study. A total ofonlysixfarmers were interviewed. Questionnaires were distributed to 100 farmers. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 as well as Excel 2016 spread sheet. The result shows that more than 65% of respondents believed that Enset root mealy-bug caused losses of pr(Cataenococcus enset) oductivity and create food shortage. The effect of Enset root mealy-bug resulted in change (Cataenococcus enset ) of feeding culture, low income and exposure to climate conditions. Damage was very high during dry and hot periods of the year and majority of the farmers said that symptoms of Enset root mealy bug attack cannot easily be kn(Cataenococcus enset) own before severe plant damage occur. Farmers usually prefer preventive measures such as use of clean seedling, sanitation, use of farmyard manure, increasing soil moisture, uprooting the infected plants and burning the hole, removing alternate hosts, control of insect pests and use of tolerant varieties This study confirms that the Kembata Zone is rich in diversity of Enset, but reduction in production and loss of some food and Medical Enset plant disappeared because of different factors. Such as Harshad weather condition over population and size of land | |
