Abstract

The present study aimed at to examine the effect of performance appraisal on employee job satisfaction in Awash Bank S.C. An Explanatory research design was used to analyze this effect and the researcher mainly deployed quantitative research Approach. Total of 447 Awash Bank employees under East Addis Ababa Region were considered as a study population, of which 211sample respondents were selected. Stratified random sampling was applied to select the sample respondents from the sampling frame. Primary data were collected from study participants through Self-Administered questioner and total of 203 employees responded resulting in a 96.2% response rate. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were adopted to analyze the data with the help of SPSS 27.0 application software. The result of the findings indicated that major components of performance appraisal have positive relationship with job satisfaction. Major components of Performance appraisal systems explain 59% of variation in job satisfaction where as 41% of variance is explained by other factors. The findings indicated that majority of the employees are not satisfied with current performance appraisal system. The bank should focus on the selected major performance appraisal components and take necessary remedial actions to increase the level of employees' job satisfaction.
