Item The Effect of Selected Human Resource Management Practice on Perceived Organizational Performance at Berhan Bank S.Co(Addis Ababa University, 2018-05-19) Lemma, Yoseph; Workie, Bantie (Ato)The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of selected human resource management practices on organizational performance at Berhan Bank S.C. Explicitly, the study attempts to discover the effect of selective hiring, training and development, compensation, performance appraisal and management, self-managed teams and employee involvement. It was carried out in Berhan Bank S.Co. head office and branches in Addis Ababa. Employees from all ranges of positions are included in the sample. Sampling was decided using a formula developed by Kerjice and Morgan to select a sample size of 346 employees from the head office and branches in Addis Ababa. Both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used to analyze the data. A step wise multiple regression analysis was conducted to test how well the selected human resource management practices could explain organizational performance. The research finding shows that selected human resource management practices affect organizational performance positively. Compensation, performance appraisal and management and employee involvement variables are identified by a regression analysis as independent variables that have greater power to explain the relationship and influence on organizational performance of the Bank. Finally, the study recommended that, the Bank should adopt a performance appraisal and management system that encourages regular feedback giving, constructive and growth. The Bank should encourage decentralized decisions making and service quality improvements. The Bank should incorporate more reliable decisions on the planning process in HRM matters and implementation of associating program to increase management awareness and employee’s involvement. Reward and compensation is a crucial instrument in achieving organizational efficiency and effectiveness. It’s also an important tool in motivating employees to work towards the organizational goals and objectives. The purpose of this study is therefore to identify how this company practices reward management and asses the challenges confronted in practicing it. Within the work realm of this company It was observed that there is a perception of lack of improvement in the reward management system parallel to the ever changing competition and economic environment, and other compensation and benefit issues that hinder the achievement of organizational objectives. The student researcher has therefore aimed in identifying the practices and challenges of reward management that exist in Etete Milk Processing share company reward management system. In doing so the research has assessed the practices and challenges of reward management of the company, Analyzed the extent to which employees are satisfied by the existing reward management system in the company, determining the level of transparency the company has in equitability of reward schemes decision making process. The researcher has also examined the mechanisms used to update the reward management system of the company and also the extent to which existing employees reward scheme is equitable or not. To undertake this study the student researcher has applied a descriptive research method. Based on this a combination of data collection methods have been used to find answers for the research questions. The research questions have therefore been addressed through questionnaires, interview and other methods of data collection including observation and secondary sources of information. For the purpose of this study a census on all 147 employees of the company has been used to take part on the process. Finally the researcher has found out that the company has a system of rewarding and motivating its employees towards achieving organizational objectives however the rewarding systems are not based mainly on performance and is not in line with the continuously changing competition and business environment. Besides the annual bonuses and salary increments are given to all employees once annually based on the salary scale, which is not advisable according to the theoretical frameworks the researcher used and in the meantime the performance of the employees are overlooked. The conclusion is, therefore, the rewarding systems which Etete Milk Processing share company uses do not motivate its employees to be competitive and work to the best interest of the company given that the rewarding systems do not take competitiveness and performance into accountItem The role of compensation practices on employee satisfaction, In the case of bekdes business plc(Addis Ababa University, 2018-05-12) Woldemichael, Frehiwot; Workie, Bantie (Ato)The purpose of this study is to examine the role of compensation practice on employee’s satisfaction in Desta Garment and Tasty Food factories, which are sister companies to BEKDES PLC. The company’s compensation system consists of financial and non-financial compensation system. Data was collected through questionnaire which is adopted from various researchers work. The validity of the instrument was checked using Cronbach Alpha and the result was 87.2%.From 814 target population, 204 questionnaires were distributed to the sample respondents among two factories. From the distributed of 204 questionnaire, 107were responded. Descriptive Statistics and frequencies were utilized to analyze the data. Interpretation is made on frequency and percentage of the data. The study’s result has implied that compensation system has a positive role on employees’ job satisfaction in Desta Garment and Tasty Food factories. Three hypotheses were supported to show the relationship between dependent and independent variables. Success of any business is depending upon its people, therefore, to retain the qualified and to recruit experienced employees, organizations has to give due consideration in establishing better compensation system. BEKDES Plc. as a parent company, should give due consideration in conducting research on compensation system of other related sectors. The company should revise the financial compensation system like medical, stock ownership accident relief, educational reimbursement and profit sharing, for employees to make them satisfied and productive. Both factories should promote adequate benefit system in order to reduce absenteeism and employee turnover.
