Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of selected human resource management practices on organizational performance at Berhan Bank S.C. Explicitly, the study attempts to discover the effect of selective hiring, training and development, compensation, performance appraisal and management, self-managed teams and employee involvement. It was carried out in Berhan Bank S.Co. head office and branches in Addis Ababa. Employees from all ranges of positions are included in the sample. Sampling was decided using a formula developed by Kerjice and Morgan to select a sample size of 346 employees from the head office and branches in Addis Ababa. Both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques were used to analyze the data. A step wise multiple regression analysis was conducted to test how well the selected human resource management practices could explain organizational performance. The research finding shows that selected human resource management practices affect organizational performance positively. Compensation, performance appraisal and management and employee involvement variables are identified by a regression analysis as independent variables that have greater power to explain the relationship and influence on organizational performance of the Bank. Finally, the study recommended that, the Bank should adopt a performance appraisal and management system that encourages regular feedback giving, constructive and growth. The Bank should encourage decentralized decisions making and service quality improvements. The Bank should incorporate more reliable decisions on the planning process in HRM matters and implementation of associating program to increase management awareness and employee’s involvement. On the top of that, the Bank should focus on the proper implementation of HRM practices level in all its branches and organs towards the appropriate HRM practices
