Item Assessment of Project Quality Management Practices in Government Mega Projects in Addis Ababa: The Case of Meskel Square Smart Parking(Addis Ababa University, 2021-06-17) Tilahun, Meron; Bogale, Mengistu (Asst. Prof.)Quality is one of the most important parameters to consider when embarking on any construction project, and it is a crucial component to consider, so this study will evaluate the quality management approach in Addis Ababa City Government mega project construction office: the case of Meskel square smart parking project in order to assess this component; quality management process, top management commitment, challenges faces while implementing quality management and the tools and techniques used were considered as variables. To achieve these goals, data collected using quantitative methods from a sample frame of 54 people, with a response rate of 90% of project staff and team members who are related to the project. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics focusing on frequency, percentage and mean value and were generated using the statistical program for the social sciences (SPSS) version 26. According to the findings, the organization does not use all stages of the quality management process, policies, tools, and techniques. There is lack of proper trainings and skilled experts. It also identified both the internal and external challenges and obstacles faced throughout the project. The study recommended that the organization prepare well defined quality policies and guidelines as a base to sustain project quality and introduce quality management tools, techniques and trainings to develop the team’s skills to enhance the success of mega project constructions.Item Assessment on the Practices of Project Contract Administration in Ethiopian Investment Commission (As a case study of TTF Project)(Addis Ababa University, 2018-06-07) Tilahun, Meron; Bekalu, Wubshet (PhD)This study identified the practice of project contract administration in Ethiopian Investment Commission. The research used descriptive research method. The data collection tools were interview and questionnaires. The sample size of the study was 26 individual who were selected though purposive sampling and the response rate was 100%. The sample size was selected though purposive sampling and a question with an item of 38 was distributed to the team member. The finding of the study revealed that there is lack of cooperation, no follow up on the deliverables, didn’t involve the contractor to identify any problems that arises in the contract, no time management of possible problems, not control and manage contract variation and lack of technical skill on the team members. Generally, the result of the research confirmed that there is a problem in the contract administration practice in Ethiopian Investment Commission. Therefore, based on the findings team members are recommended to take trainings related with their qualification and position and also there is a need to participate the contractor in the contract administration practice, there is also a need to solve disputes on time that arises in the contract administration practice.Item Service Quality and Customer Satisfaction of Ethio Telecom’s Call Center(Addis Ababa University, 2017-06-01) Tilahun, Meron; Workineh, Mesfin (PhD)This research deals with the effect of service quality on customer satisfaction of ethio telecom call center service. The objectives of the research were to examine the quality of service provided by Ethio Telecom’s call center and its effect on customer satisfaction by SERVPERV model. A deductive research approach was used to execute the study. Data was gathered using the questionnaire from 358 respondents (customer of call center service of ET) who were selected using the stratified random sampling technique. The data collected from the questionnaire were analyzed using statistical tools such as mean, correlation, and logistic regression analysis. The findings of the study revealed that, all the service quality dimensions (reliability, responsiveness, empathy and assurance) have positive and significant relationship with customer satisfaction. Also the finding of this study indicates that customers were most satisfied with the assurance dimensions of service quality followed by responsiveness. Accordingly from the regression result it is observed that all service quality dimensions have positive and significant effect on customer satisfaction. Furthermore, 22.7% of the variations in customer satisfaction explained by service quality dimensions in ethio telecom call center service. Based on the findings of the study, the researcher forwarded some recommendations to the call center management.Item Sustainable Livelihood of Rural Households through Rural-Urban Linkage: In Case Study of GubaLafito Woreda, South Wollo Zone, Ethiopia(Addis Ababa University, 2014-11) Tilahun, Meron; Estifanos, Girma (PhD)This study analyses the sustainable livelihood through rural urban linkage. This study was conducted with the objective of examining and studying sustainable rural livelihood through rural urban linkage in GubaLafito district. In order to achieve this objective, primary data were collected from 164 randomly selected households. For the data analysis, both descriptive and econometrics analysis were used to describe the livelihood resource/asset of the GubaLafito district and the different livelihood strategy options. The result of the study reveals that, through rural households derive a larger proportion of their income from framing, there are also different kinds of strategies they follow to improve their livelihoods, increase credit service and saving of money is important to stimulate the rural non-farm income and strengthen rural urban linkage. Physical infrastructure like road, communication and rural electrification are improves rural productivity and access for market in their village encourage the flow of people from urban to rural areas and increase the degree of rural and urban linkage between rural and urban areas. Finally, in order to strengthen rural urban linkage; agricultural development to generate surplus, strengthen marketing facilities and intensifying the physical connection are some of the critical points which is forwarded by the researcher as a recommendation.
