Item Analysis of Two-Operator Boundary-Domain Integral Equations for Variable-Coefficient Boundary Value Problems in 2D(Addis Ababa University, 2020-10-24) Tesfaye, Solomon; Gedif, Tsegaye (PhD); Mikhailov, Sergey E. (Professor)In this dissertation, the boundary value problems (BVPs) for the second order elliptic partial differential equation with variable coefficient in two-dimensional bounded domain is considered. Using an appropriate parametrix (Levi function) and applying the two-operator approach (where the one operator approach fails ), the problems are reduced to some systems of boundary-domain integral equations (BDIEs). The two-operator BDIEs in 2D need a special consideration due to their different equivalence properties as compared to higher dimensional case due to the logarithmic term in the parametrix for the associated partial differential equation. Consequently, we need to set conditions on the domain or function spaces to insure the invertibility of the corresponding layer potentials, and hence the unique solvability of BDIEs. Equivalence of the two-operator BDIE systems to the original BVPs, BDIEs solvability, uniqueness/ non uniqueness of the solution, as well as Fredholm property and invertibility of the BDIEs are analysed. Moreover, the two-operator boundary domain integral operators for the Neumann BVP are not invertible, and appropriate finite-dimensional perturbations are constructed leading to invertibility of the perturbed operators.Item The Effect of Human Resource Development on Organizational Performance: the Case of Ethiopian Electric Utility South Western Region.(Addis Ababa University, 2017-05) Tesfaye, Solomon; Gebrehiwot, Firehiwot (Assistant Professor)The aims of the study are to examine how HRD/ training, education and development affect performance of the organization and to point out the most significant factors that influence the performance of Ethiopian Electric Utility south western region. The researcher had analyzed HRD/ training and development factor that influence organizational performance which areHRD/training and development need assessment, HRD/training and development design methods, HRD/training and development implementations, and HRD/training and development evaluation. A total of 181 questionnaires were distributed to 181 staffs at Ethiopian Electric Utilitysouth western regional offices by hand and all 181 questionnaires were returned for analysis. The data had been entered by Epi data and analyzed using Statistic Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Research findings revealed the significant relationship between HRD/ training, education and development variables with organizational performance. Thus the study showed that among all variables, HRD evaluation had a major influence on organizational performance and recommended thatthe organizations should give emphasis to improve its HRD implementation by increasing workers participation in designing training and development implementation programsItem The Practice of Message Development for Political Campaign: The 2010 Ethiopian Parliamentary Election in Focus(Addis Ababa University, 2015-06) Tesfaye, Solomon; Simon, Gebremedhin (PhD)This research work took the 2010 Ethiopian Parliamentary Election as its context to examine the process of message development during the election campaign. In this study the practice of message development for TV by the contending political parties was investigated. Also the powers of election messages to motivate, inform, and persuade their audiences and the messages key contents were issues focused on. Related literature was thoroughly revised and social judgment, persuasion and social influence theories were used as a theoretical framework. ‘Election campaign communications strategy’ was adapted from political communication and campaigning theories and practices. This was used as conceptual frame work for the study. Seven parties were selected using purposive sampling technique out of the 23 parties contended during the 2010 national election for both primary and secondary sources of data in the study. In the study content analysis is used (in conjunction with in-depth interviews). There were 7 interview questions designed in a way they can help to understand the process of message development and use. They were employed to collect information about the process of message development for election and the data was analyzed thematically. Moreover, the massages broadcasted by these same parties during 2010 election were accessed from EBC archive and content analyzed. The result showed that campaign messages transmitted via TV tend to be presented in many paragraphs of long narratives bogged with party policies and programs. Those who prepared the messages also were unable to cater with policy, image, and negatives in writing their scripts. All these attributes made them longer, less attractive, and not appealing to the audience. This also showed that their power to persuade, motivate and inform the voters was minimal. Gaps were observed in applying modern political communication and campaign theories and practices in the process of election message development such as campaign communications strategy.Item The Problem of Housing in Hosanna Town: The Case of Addis Ketema Kifle Ketema(Addis Ababa University, 2014-06) Tesfaye, Solomon; Woldetsadik, Muluneh (PhD)One requirement of housing for human being is to provide shelter in order to provide shelter in order to shield from natural and social phenomena. The problem of housing is a worldwide problem and the problem of housing is more severe in less developing than developed countries. The study is to examine the extent and seriousness of the housing shortage and associated problems. Extensive survey of theoretical and empirical literature was made to support the paper with applicable and worthfull ideas. Primary data were also collected from the study area using both open ended and close ended questionnaires, structured interviews and by referring to documents and reports of the different governmental institutions. Single quantitative techniques are used to analyze the data collected. The study argues that the exacerbation of much of the existing housing problem lies in the failure of policy intervention to facilitate grounds for cooperation between concerned groups. Accordingly, it suggests the need for cooperation and partnership between major interest groups as available tool for future policy capable of taking the housing problem of Hosanna town. The need for future research is also indicated
