Item Assessing Factors Causing Construction Delay in Addis Ababa Housing Development Corporation Projects, the Case of Project 12(Addis Ababa University, 2021-09-28) Anteneh, Getahune; Tesfaye, Atsede(PhD)The paper assessed significant factors causing delay in the construction of projec12 at Bole Arabsa site. The assessment involved the professionals from the three important major stakeholders in the sector who were involved in the project 12. In conducting the assessment five important sources of delay determinant (independent variables) were identified from previous literatures as client related, contractor related, consultant related, construction material related and construction environment related to be evaluated for their significance level to cause project delay at project 12. The research adapts descriptive research design and involves mixed research approach to collect data relevant to the paper. The study also considered the project time management system as a confounding variable between the dependent variable (project time performance or project delay) and the independent variables considered in five main categories. The sample for this assessment research was taken from three different population groups which are the client, the contractors and the consultants participating in project 12.disproportianate stratified sampling was used to select sample representative for each group and purposive non probability sampling to address the selected sample of each group. From 38 lists of factors identified under the main categories of delay causing factors the most significant factor causing delay were identified in terms of their relative importance level evaluated by 18 contractor’s representative, 15 client representative and 12 consultant representative professionals. From The study top significant causes of delay within each category were identified and ranked according to the relative importance from combined responses of the stake holders and the perception of each stakeholder towards the most significant important source of delay was identified. The research also identified the significant sources of delay determinant from among the five main categories of delay sources with the degree of their relative importance and the frequencies of factor contributed in the first top ten list. The paper evaluates the project time management practice as confounding variables between the dependent and independent variables and it was found that the poor performance of time management also played a significant role for the delay of the project as it increases the influence of independent variables and also impact project time performance at the same time.Item Assessing Implementation Challenge of Agent Banking Product: The Case of Wegagen Bank S.C(Addis Ababa University, 2021-03-19) Menberu, Eskedar; Tesfaye, Atsede(PhD)This research aims at assessing factors affecting implementation of agent banking service in the case of wegagen bank specifically the research assess factors from organization, resource based and technological perspective and also what challenges faced by Agents when using hello cash. … The researcher use questioner both to agent and mobile banking department staff’s and also selected agents throughout Addis Ababa. Environmental sustainability and other ecological considerations drive green building programs, as well as the need to reduce the expense of building operations after construction to provide financial savings and a competitive advantage. However, the idea of green building projects is relatively new in Ethiopia, as it is in the majority of developing African countries. And even the very few green building projects in Addis Ababa continues to be hindered by a lack of a suitable project management system for such projects. This study explores Addis Ababa's green building construction project management practice, identifies obstacles, and expresses serious concern about taking the necessary steps for GBC development through project management for future projects. To address the research query, a quantitative data collection and analysis approach was used. Data was collected for statistical analysis using a questionnaire sent to professionals who participated in 5 Green Building projects in Addis Ababa. It was discovered that the existing green building construction practice in Addis Ababa is at a very low level and faces significant challenges, indicating the need for a shift from conventional practices to green specifications and the creation of a well-documented project management system to be led by in order to remain on track with project schedules, budgets, and quality. Planning of different construction technique, Difficulty in comprehending the green specifications in the contract details, Specific budget specification of the green project, Specific performance required for green building projects, Resistance to change from their traditional practices, Lack of the technical skill regarding green technologies and techniques, Workers' unaware of the correct methods and procedures and Lengthy BCA approval process for new technologies are among the top challenges found to be highly encountered. As the outcome of the study shows, schedule and cost overruns are highly anticipated in green building construction projects, though quality can be assured with relatively less impact. It was also discovered that Stakeholder management, materials resources management, schedule management and planning, cost management, communication management and risk management are found to be critical management knowledge areas that project managers must possess for GBC projects to succeed.Item Assessment of Planning Practices in Addis Ababa Housing Projects, Specific Case of 40/60 Housing Projects(Addis Ababa University, 2021-06-17) Mulatu, Ermias; Tesfaye, Atsede(PhD)Projects are very essential for the economic growth of any nation, especially construction projects because infrastructures and other developmental activities are executed through these projects. Even though these projects play a crucial role in the development of the nation, the level of attention given to them in terms of the effectively and efficiently completing them has been unsatisfactory. Moreover risk is managed by the project managers only rather than to be seen as a common prime activity for project manager and consultant and to have specialized risk management team. In line with this risk identification, risk analysis and risk monitoring and controlling aren’t undertaken in a way to mitigate project risk that will happen. Somehow in the authority there is an attempt which has been undertaken intuitively to manage project risk rather than scientifically. Some recommendations were given amongst them were the authority shall give emphasis establishing the risk management system, recruiting and providing training for the staffItem Assessment Of The Project Risk Management Practice Of 20/80 Condominium Housing Project: The Case Of Bole Arabsa Site(Addis Ababa University, 2019-06) Ferede, Fertuna; Tesfaye, Atsede(PhD)The performance of construction projects is considerably affected by project risks in terms of cost, time and quality. Participants who involved in completing the questioner were selected using purposive sampling. Descriptive statistics was used to summarize the quantitative data compiled by SPSS 21. Data were summarized using measures of central tendency. The study generally revealed that the housing and development agency is practicing risk management in an ad-hoc manner, where there is no well designed and workable policy being implemented to guide the risk management and no enough attention is given to risk planning to channel the risk identification, analysis and response concurrently with the project plan and objective. Based on this finding the study has provided recommendations on how to apply risk management process practice in 20/80 condominium housing project.Item Assessment of Use of Face Mask by Cabin Crew During the Covid-19 Pandemic: A Case of Ethiopian Airlines(Addis Ababa University, 2021-03) Iyassu, Haben; Tesfaye, Atsede(PhD)Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
