Item An Assessment of Motivational Factors Associated With Teachers’ Performance in Government Secondary Schools of Addis Ababa.(Addis Ababa University, 2019-06) Talema, Getachew; Nigussie, Dejene (PhD)The purpose of this descriptive study was toinvestigatethe extent of motivational factors and its association with teachers’ performance in Addis Ababa City Government secondary school.To address the purpose of the study three research questions were formulated; the research questions were primarily to what extent a teacher intrinsically motivated?, to what extent a teacher extrinsically motivated? And what is the relationship between motivational factors and teacher performance? The study used a descriptive survey method by incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data.This study used 185 school teachers and 55 school leaders’ respondents randomly selected using a lottery methodfor347teachersin selected secondary schools of Addis Ababa.In addition, 10 key informants’fromseven principals and threesubcity teacher development expertswere included.Closed questionnaires were used for gathering data. Data collected through a self-administered questionnaire filled by teachers and school leaders.The Average cronbach’salpha reliability indices of 0.805 and 0.883 teachers and school leaders respectively, In addition, the interview was conducted to the key informant. The data obtained through questionnaire were liable to quantitative analysis were coded and entered into SPSS version 24 and excel sheetto analyzed using simple descriptive statisticstandard deviation, mean difference, mean and also t-and p-values comparing during the data analysis.Qualitative data gathered through interviews were analyzed qualitatively through descriptive narration.The major findings of the research were teachers were moderately intrinsically motivated,teachers were low extrinsically motivated teacher was moderatelymotivation and accomplishmentin addition to teachers were moderately performed. There is a positive relationship between motivational factors and teacher performance in the study area. Finally the researcher recommends that develop a motivational framework,to facilitate positive competition among teachers.To rises the teachers’ performance and achievement in teaching learning process it is important that schools should deal with sufficient budget to supple needed teaching materials and is strong for applied usage in the laboratory, library, ICT center...etc. Furthermore, it should increase positive work competition among teachers by grading performance of the teachers’ bi- monthly based on the fair initiative rewards with their strength. Key words: performance, Motivation, School leadersItem Financial Management Practices in Secondary Schools of Gumer Werda, Gurage Zone(Addis Ababa University, 2019-10) Abdulshikur, Meded; Nigussie, Dejene (PhD)Financial management is defined by the function and areas of responsibility of financial managers. Financial management in education is concerned with the cost of education, source of income to meet the educational cost and the spending of the income in an objective manner. The main purpose of this study was to analyze the current financial management practice in Gumerworeda secondary schools and to observe the major challenges occurred during financial management. The study was conducted in Gumerworeda high schools. The study employed descriptive survey design along with both quantitative and qualitative (Concurrent Mixed) methods. The data used for assessing the financial management practices and problems faced these high schools were primary and secondary data. The primary data was collected via questionnaire and interview whereas the secondary data was obtained from the school’s annual reports and financial documents, rules and regulations. As a source of primary data, 83 teachers, 25 PTSA, 5 principals, 7 vice principals, and 17 WEOs were incorporated. The sampling method used in the study was purposive sampling methods (total population purposive sampling and expert purposive sampling). The data obtained from the respondents were analyzed by using charts, percentage and description (narrations). The study found that there was problem in preparing participatory and SMART financial plan, improper allocation and utilization of financial resources including budget discrepancy, problem of using the existing budget as per the action plan, improper control as well as evaluation of budget, delay to release and procurement of educational materials, principals deep intervention in the technical aspects of the schools finance that leads to great corruption and limited support of WEOs including not hiring professional accountants in the schools. It is recommended that the school finance has to be managed efficiently, because it determines the total output as well as outcomes of the educational process. Principals together with concerned stakeholders should prepare participatory and SMART financial plan, there should be right allocation and utilization of the already available budget of the schools, timely releases and purchase of educational materials, principals should have limited and only financial management role and WEOs should adequately support the schools including hiring professional accountants to run their budget in a proper way.Item The Practice of Material Resource Management in Secondary and Preparatory Schools of Kolfe Keranyo Sub-City, Addis Ababa(Addis Ababa University, 2017-06) Nigussie, Dereje; Nigussie, Dejene (PhD)The objective of this research was to assess the practice of material resource management in Kolfe Keranyo Secondary and Preparatory schools of Addis Ababa sub-city. It was concerned with material management functions (such as, planning, purchasing distribution, controlling, utilization, storage, inventory control and maintenance, scrap and surplus disposal) challenges faced for effective management and utilization of educational material guidelines policies. To meet the stated objective descriptive survey method of research was used in carry out. Four groups of respondents participated in the study. These were academic and administrative staff, sub city officers and PTSA members. As of study areas, 0ne sub city and 3 schools were selected purposely. Respondents were selected by purposive sampling technique due to their direct relation with the issue under study and also to gain sufficient information. Availability and simple random sampling techniques were also employed. The data were collected through questionnaire, interviews and personal observation. Data gathered through questionnaire were quantitatively analyzed using percentage and mean value using SPSS whereas the data gathered through interview open ended questions and observation were handled through thematic analysis. Integrated material management functions were not properly implemented. Lack of training and continuous supervision in the area of educational material management, Based on these findings, it was forward some recommendation. Therefore capacitating professionals’ through training assist users in putting these materials in to effective usage. To develop positive attitude towards the management and utilization of educational materials, school managements should work closely with the school community and stakeholders. Organized and integrated education materials management system should be designed by concerned bodies to utilize and manage materials properly.
