Item Achievements and Challenges of Kaizen Implementation in the Case of Kadisco Paint and Adhesive Industry Share Company(A.A.U, 2025-05-22) Daniel Shigute; Mohammed Seid (PhD)Kaizen is a Japanese management philosophy centered on continuous, incremental improvements in productivity, quality, cost reduction, and waste elimination through employee participation. The objective of the study is to investigate the achievements and challenges of Kaizen implementation at Kadisco Paint and Adhesive Industry Share Company. In order to address the objectives and the research questions, data were collected from the target population of 40 employees. Hence primary data were collected through questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation analysis were used, and also SPSS and Excel tools were utilized for analysis. The study found that while Kaizen has led to meaningful improvements in quality, delivery time, safety, and employee empowerment, the overall implementation remains partial and concentrated in limited areas. Tools such as quality circles and TQC were practiced very well while the suggestion system showed only moderate engagement. Among the pillars, 5S was the most successfully applied. It was also realized that 75% of respondents believe the company has established fundamental Kaizen infrastructure through training and use of core kaizen tools. However, challenges including lack of top management commitment, misconception, existing negative working culture attitude, and factory layout limitations continue to hinder full-scale implementation. The research concludes that Kadisco must shift from fragmented initiatives to a companywide Kaizen implementation. Key recommendations include strengthening leadership support, expanding quality circles, revitalizing the suggestion system, and addressing structural and cultural barriers to enhance continuous improvement and long-term performance.Item The Impacts of Quality Management on Performance Improvement in the case of Ethiopian Commodity Exchange: the mediation effect of Leadership(AAU, 2024-02-20) Dawit Solomon; Mohammed Seid (PhD)The study aimed to examine the mediation function of authority in navigating the connection between quality assurance and effectiveness enhancement via the Ethiopian Grain Trade (ECX). Formal surveys were conducted with 139 participants, using inductive and descriptive data. The results showed that the Ethiopian commodities Exchange's existing checks and balances were of passable efficacy. However, there is potential for development. Regulatory authorities should prioritize improving supervision procedures and implementing strong quality management procedures. This can be achieved by encouraging an environment of ongoing development and highlighting the value of quality control across all aspects of the business. The research also showed a strong and favorable correlation between boosting productivity, direction, and excellent assurance. The relationship between quality control with productivity enhancement seems to be somewhat mediated by administration. This highlights the importance of strong management in advancing exchange-controlled exchanges effectiveness programs. The study recommends management across the Ethiopian Stock Market embrace the development of a society rooted in greatness through ongoing enhancement. This can be achieved by fostering tasks that promote productivity advantages and cultivating strong managerial skills. It is also crucial for administrators and government organizations to establish processes for ongoing improvement and regular review and improvement of inspection procedures.Item The Role of Family Dynamics During A Transition to an Entre-Preneurial Career: A Study of Youth Entrepreneurs in Ethiopia(A.A.U, 2024-02-17) Jebessa Teshome Bayissa; Mohammed Seid (PhD)The purpose of thesis is to explore the role of family dynamics in the process of the transi-tioning of adolescent family members to an entrepreneurial career. It draws on a longitudinal study of young entrepreneurs who chose their careers in entrepreneurship through co-establishing new firms against a family embedded in an institutional setting where entrepre-neurship career choice is not the common norm. In this case, the study explores how the youth entrepreneurs relate the transitioning process to their entrepreneurial career to family members’ feelings, actions, and reactions. The thesis lines up with two strands of the litera-ture - career perspective and family embeddedness approach. In a way it further steers earlier works which suggest viewing entrepreneurship from a career perspective and the role of fa-milial relations in the process of realizing entrepreneurship career. The thesis compares fa-milial relations with venture creation processes by a family member. The findings of the thesis show that family dynamics including the perception and expecta-tion of parents, siblings, and extended family members about business career influences the development, and formation of entrepreneurial career. The entrepreneur -family relational dynamics during the venturing process shows that mothers tend to be the most significant others in supporting the entrepreneurs’ career during the early stage of venturing, fathers come in the middle stage of the venturing. Moreover, the findings show relational tensions in the early stage of venturing, familial scaffolding during the startup stage and entrepreneurs’ increasing aspirations to become independent at the later stage of venturing. Because entre-preneurs live and mainly network among the family members; entrepreneurial career mainly takes part in a family setting confirming the role that family dynamics contributes to the tran-sition of a family member to entrepreneurial career. It proposes the understanding of the process of transitioning to entrepreneurial career as the process of individuation from family relations. The thesis argues that in an institutionally void and unconducive family setting to entrepreneurship, young entrepreneur’s motivation towards entrepreneurial career influ-ences the family context and fosters quick individuation and challenge the unconducive fami-ly setting toward business. The thesis contributes to the literature of career perspective of entrepreneurship and family embeddedness.
