Item Assessment of the prevalence and factors affecting use of long acting and permanent contraceptive in Jinka town, South Omo zone, SNNPR(Addis Abeba University, 2008-06) Mekonnen, Getachew; Enquselassie, Fikre (PhD)Introduction: In Ethiopia, knowledge of contraceptive methods is high though there is low CPR in the two EDHS surveys. However, there is very low knowledge and use of LAPMs of contraceptive compared to shorter acting contraceptive methods. Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the prevalence and factors affecting the use of long acting (Implant and IUCD) and permanent (Vasectomy and Female sterilization) contraceptive among women of reproductive age group in Jinka town, South Omo Zone, SNNPR, Ethiopia. Methodology: A cross sectional community based survey was conducted on the prevalence and factors affecting LAPMs use from March to April 2008 on 763 women of reproductive age groups and 33 FGD discussants in Jinka town, South Omo zone. Results: The prevalence of contraceptive among participants was about 301 (39.5%) among this LAPMs contributes for 56 (7.3%). Implant is the most widely used method from LAPMs contributing to almost half, 28 (50%) of the LAPMs users. There was very low 137 (18%) knowledge of LAPMs in Jinka town. Among LAPMs, Implant is known by most 104 (76.1%), and the least known is male sterilization 24 (17.4%). A considerable amount, 449 (63.5%) of participants have intentions to use LAPMs one time in the future. Conclusion and Recommendation: The study had demonstrated that there was low knowledge and relatively fair level use of LAPMs in the town. Furthermore, intention to use LAPMs in the future is promising. The Zonal viii health department should have routine monitoring and evaluation of family planning programs; maintain continuous health education programs on LAPMs contraceptive methods using leaders at different settings.Item The Effects of Performance Appraisal System on Employees' Performance In the case of Addis Ababa Abattoirs Enterprise(A.A.U, 2019-12) Mekonnen, Getachew; Jemal, Mohammed (Ph.D.)Employees' performance is one of the major issues in an organization. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of performance appraisal system on employees' performance in the case of Addis Ababa Abattoirs Enterprise. The study was aimed to: identify whether setting performance standards in an organization will lead to better employees' performance or not; evaluate how communicating performance expectation to employee has an effect on employees' performance; determine how measuring actual performance of employees based on Predetermined standards has an effect on employees' performance; realize how comparing actual performance with standards affect employees' performance; find out the effect of discussion on appraisal result and giving feedback on the employees' performance, and identify the relationship between indicating corrective actions and employees' performance. The method of the study was quantitative and data were collected by the use of questionnaires from 277 employees from the target enterprise. Data from the research was analyzed by using Statistical Package for the social sciences. To analyze the data, descriptive (frequency, percentage and mean) and also inferential statistic (Pearson's correlation coefficient and regression) test were run. The association between employees' performance and each performance appraisal system dimensions are significant, which indicates that there is a moderate positive relationship between performance appraisal system and employees' performance. Regression analysis model indicates performance appraisal system has a significant positive effect on employees' performance. The study recommended that the management should strive to make their employees aware of the role of the performance appraisal system. The results of the appraisal shall be communicated to the employees, and then both administrative and developmental corrective actions shall be applied to improve performanceItem Inverse Compton Scattering in strong Magnetic Field: a Possible Mechanism for Hard x-Ray production from Accreting Neutron stars(Addis Ababa University, 2007-07) Mekonnen, Getachew; Wetro, Legesse (PhD)We began by considering Dirac equation to derive the inverse compton scattering cross section in strong magnetic field and this cross section has simple form for the scattering of a low frequency photon with relativistic electron. We also derived the spectrum function from this cross section, which has a direct application on the hardening of thermal photons(soft x-rays)through inverse compton scattering by relativistic electron beams on the surface of strongly magnetized neutron stars to get the highest scattered photon energy of magnitude: !f = 4 2!i for the incident photon angle i = and scattered photon angle f = 0 which can give hard x-ray spectrum in the energy range of 12KeV-50MeV by considering soft X-ray as incident photon and to get this spectrum the electron energy for pulsars(rotating Neutron stars)is considered as well. And we showed the application of Inverse compton scattering in X-ray Astronomy during Roche Lobe overflow and formation of Accretion disc in the compact object in our case(Strongly magnetized Neutron stars)
