Item Anti-Suit Injunction in International Arbitration(Addis Ababa University, 2016-02) Girma, Solomon; Kiros, Simeneh (Assistant Professor)The involvement of national courts is essential to the overall effectiveness of arbitration, both ill domestic and inferna/iollai level. Howev er, anti-suit injunction as an instrul'nent of terrl/inating or staying arbitral proceeding, the relationship of national courts and arbitral tribunals are varies between fo rced cohabitation and true partnership. Moreo ver, a marked increase of allti- suit il/jullctiolls issued by both Arbitral Tribunals and National Courts has been seen recently. This thesis, there/ore, identifies the power of both national courts and arbitral tribunals towards issuing anti-suit injunction in international arbitration. In addition, compatibility of anti-suit injunction with the general pU/poses and principles of international arbitration have been critically scrutinized. Furtherll7ore, the legal effect of anti-suit illj unctioll in international arbitratioll is addressed in detail. Finally, after a profound analysis Oil the above three areas of controversies in illtemational commercial arbitration, the thesis atg ues that since anti-suit injunct ion is a new trend in international arbitration, both National Courts and Arbitral Tribunals should always exercise this power with due care because th eir effects may be more harmjid than the problem they are seeking to resolve it.Item The Effect Of Brand Equity On Consumer Purchase Intention: The Case Of Ambassador Garment And Trading Plc(Addis Ababa University, 2018-05-13) Girma, Solomon; Mesfin, Tewodros (PhD)The main aim of this study was to provide empirical evidence on the effect of Brand equity on purchase intention of Ambassador Garment and Trading PLC in Addis Ababa. A quantitative research approach was applied to collect data from the consumers of Ambassador Garment; in which 384 respondents were included. The target population for this study includes consumers of Ambassador Garment and Trading PLC in Addis Ababa. Simple random sampling technique was employed to select the branch of Ambassador Garment where the questionnaire was distributed by using lottery method and finally Convenience sampling was used in order to select the target consumers from the selected branch. To accomplish this, a questionnaire survey was conducted by taking the most important Brand equity dimensions that were identified by several researchers from literature. For the sake of achieving the objectives of this study, questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive and inferential analyses with the help of SPSS version 23 statistical software program. The study reveals that all Brand equity dimensions such as Brand awareness, Brand perceived quality, Brand association and Brand loyalty have significant and positive effects on consumers purchase intention of Ambassador Garment. The result confirms the hypothesized relationships in the research model. Thus, marketers in the Ambassador Garment needs to carefully consider the brand equity components when designing their branding strategies and apply this concept in a more focused and thorough manner. Marketers are also called on to adapt their branding approaches to fit each marketing environment and enhance brand loyalty to reduce the shifting behavior of consumers. The paper clarifies the relationships between the four brand equity model components and purchase intentionItem Effects of Dietary Diversity and Eating Behaviours on Adolescent Girl‟S Nutritional Status in Government Schools, Akaki Kality Subcity, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia(Addis Ababa University, 2020-12) Girma, Solomon; Haile PhD, AbebeAdolescence is a period of rapid growth and maturation in human development that demands extra nutrients and energy to support growth. Focusing on adolescent’s nutrition, especially girls, provides a unique opportunity to break the intergenerational cycles of malnutrition. However, there is little information about adolescent eating behaviours, dietary diversification and nutritional status of adolescent girls, especially urban and school based. This study aimed to assess the effects of dietary diversity and eating behaviors on schoolgirls nutritional status in government schools in Akaki Kality sub-city, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A total of 384 adolescent girls between the ages of 10 to 19 years who were registered and attended in the selected 12 government primary and secondary schools in the year 2019/2020 were selected through probabilistic two-stage sampling technique. The study used both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Descriptive, bivariate, and econometric analysis (Ordered and multinomial logistic regression) computed by STATA V14. Statistical significance was considered at p < 0.05 and the strength of statistical association was assessed by odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals. Qualitative data collected through focus discussion group discussion using a semistructured questionnaire. Mean age of schoolgirls was 15.67 years (± 1.596). Overall stunting and thinness of schoolgirls were 15.0% (60/384) and 14.1% (54/384) respectively and about 5.2%(20/384) schoolgirls were overweight and almost half of schoolgirls had low dietary diversity score with their mean (±SD) dietary diversity score of 3.61 (± 1.33). The risk factors for stunting were schoolgirls who used to drink sugary fluids [OR: 18, 95% CI (2.49- 130.89)], schoolgirls who often feel hungry in the week [OR: 5.2, 95% CI (1.95- 14.05)], schoolgirls whose family lower income status [OR: 4.97, 95% CI (2.46- 10.06)], and schoolgirls whose lower BMI/age [OR: 1.53, 95% CI (1.27- 1.84)]. Similarly, the risk factors for thinness were schoolgirls who used to drink sugary fluids [OR: 13.84, 95% CI (1.74-109.97)], schoolgirls whose family lower income status [OR: 2.29, 95% CI (1.33-3.92)], schoolgirls who used to practice daily eat on late [OR: 9.77, 95% CI (4.60- 20.72)] and irregular and who never perform enough healthy exercise [OR: 1.95, 95% CI (1.07- 3.55)]. This study provided important indicator for the nutritional status of ''tomorrow’s mothers’’ therefore; Akaki Kality subcity education office should maintain the school feeding programme to mitigate poor nutrition outcome following erratic feeding and meal skipping behaviours. Family should keep attention and watch schoolgirls eating behaviours, weight, and health status since this is the second opportunity to create feature generation through healthy growing feature mothers.Item Management Development Practices and Problems In Ethio telecom(Addis Ababa University, 2014-06) Girma, Solomon; Kedir, Hussen(PhD)As the world moves towards a globalized service dominant economy system with experiencing rapid growth, many nations shift from a manufacturing –based economy to service economy, the major factor for this change is the invention of computer technology and advancement in telecommunication. This research was conducted with the objective of assessing management development practices and problems in Ethio telecom, It is an exploration of the issues concerning management development practices in terms of how development needs were assessed, and how the program is evaluated and the strategic position and roles of management development and giving suggestions to improve the effectiveness these activities. The research has adopted a qualitative and quantities approach. The data were gathered through a combination of structured interviews with 5 chief officers and the rest 218 a survey questionnaire were distributed for mangers and officers additionally the company policy and procedure were used as a secondary source of data. The study reveals that, there were absences of systematic management training needs assessment and of effective procedures for evaluation. Regularly the company provided training for managers whenever the mangers up graded to fill new position. Management development program faces many problems: lack of long term plan for developing managers, poor quality management training program, lack of private training centres, inaccurate development need assessment, difficulty to evaluate training and development out comes. Then I recommended that, management development program needs to be a systematic function, linked and derived from the overall organizational strategies, plans and policies, rather than being piecemeal, standalone activities, designed to react to the current organizational conditions In terms of management development need assessment, this process needs to be systematic; training needs should be assessed based on objective systematic techniques rather than being subjective to the mangers direct viewpoints and personal aspects and it should be for all managerial level by emphasizing the need to be on performance appraisal records and job descriptions. When assessing training needs, the analyses should include individual, organizational and job training needs rather than only individuals' needs.Item Multi-Agency Responses for Accessing Service to Trafficked Persons in Addis Ababa(Addis ababa University, 2019-12) Girma, Solomon; Ero (PHD), DebebeThe purpose of this research was to study multi -agency responses for accessing service to trafficked persons in Addis Ababa. The dynamics of Land use/cover is one of the causing factor to change the hydrologic response of the Ganale sub-basin resulting for soil erosion and over producing of runoff and sediment yield. Therefore this thesis is attempted to access the effects of land use/cover changes on Genale Dawa Dam-3 reservoir sedimentation for the year of 1994, 2000, and 2017. The land use/cover was generated from satellite image using ERDAS Imagine 2014 software. Using the three land use/cover and the same other input data (DEM, climate data and soil map) for all, three independent model were delineated. The delineated Genale sub-basin was divided into 286 sub-basins and 2632 HRU‘s for 1994 and 2000, 2449 HRU for 2017. Model calibration and validation was done successfully at Chenemesa gauging station. Calibration and validation of the SWAT model was done under sensitivity analysis by means of using SWAT-CUP software SUFI2 program. Hence calibration and validation of flow and sediment yield for each model is conducted from 1990-2005 and 2006-2015 respectively. Accordingly the R2 and NSE were found to be in the acceptable range (0.66 to 0.71 for R2 and 0.51 to 0.65 for NSE). The evaluation of land use/cover result showed that the average annual Sediment load and runoff at upper Genale Dam-3 site is found that 14.1 ton per ha per year, 77.8mm for land use/cover in 1994 was 16.4 ton per ha/year, 102.2mm for land use/cover in 2000 and 24.3 ton per ha per year, 130.6mm for land use/cover in 2017 respectively. Variability of sediment yield in Genale sub basin are fluctuates between 0.1ton per ha per year to 129 ton/ha/yr. in 1994 of LULC, 0.1ton/ha/yr. up to 111 ton/ha/yr. in 2000 LULC and 1 per ha per year to 162 1ton per ha per year in 2017LULC in annually average during the period from (1990-2017) respectively. The model prediction results indicated that in 1994, 2000, and 6.7%, 5.2%, and 11.9% of Genale sub-basin area were highly eroded by producing greater than 50 ton/ha/yr. Therefore, the result of the study shall be supports different concerned party to plan and implement suitable soil and water conservation approaches.
