Item Analysis of Critical Success Factors affecting Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Project Implementation: the case of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia(Addis Ababa University, 2018-06-08) Getachew, Daniel; Teklemariam, Dereje (PhD)ERP projects are complex purposes which influence main internal and external operations of companies. The success of the project directly influences the performance of the organization. Recent research has methodically collected plausible data in the field of critical success factors (CSFs) within ERP projects. The overarching objective of the study is to identify and describe the main CSFs and how they can be ranked according to the importance to success of the project. Because of the influence of CSFs to ERP-projects in general, the term “ERP project” is used in the further parts of this paper. Both primary and secondary data were used to meet the objective of the study. A total of 24 project managers and project team members were interviewed with triangulation of data from desktop sources. Data was analyzed descriptively. In terms of result, it is found out twenty critical success factors from literatures for successful implementation of ERP systems and from them the important critical factors are ranked in order of importance. Factors such as project planning and strategy, top management support, project management and leadership, capability of consultants, change management and communication, and overall knowledge transfer are among the factors identified as critical for ERP system implementation in Commercial Bank of Ethiopian. This study will be significant to project managers, especially in organizations that have recently implemented or are in the process of implementing the ERP systemsItem Assessment of Seismic Vulnerability of Reinforced Concrete Buildings(Addis Ababa University, 2011-04) Getachew, Daniel; Zekaria, Adil(PhD)This thesis is conducted to evaluate seismic vulnerability and investigate nonlinear behaviors of existing reinforced concrete buildings constructed in Addis Ababa. The paper examines four structures using nonlinear dynamic analysis software (IDARC 2D ver. 7.0). Each of these structures will be analyzed for three peak ground accelerations of 0.05g, 0.07g and 0.10g. The finding of this research is that two of the four buildings will collapse immediately when an earthquake (of intensity 0.05g, 0.07g and 0.10g) occurs. It is also found that the other two buildings resist the seismic loads that will occur during an earthquake and the story force deformation time history responses of these two buildings show stiffness degradation, strength decay and pinching behaviors of reinforced concrete structures. It was concluded that some of the buildings deform beyond the limit of linearly elastic range and due to the high damage of the main structural elements, the buildings will no longer give service or a total collapse will occur after earthquake. It is recommended to evaluate seismic vulnerability of the existing buildings in Addis Ababa based on nonlinear analysis procedures. This study explores the relationship between the general attitude towards advertising and the attitude towards advertising in specific media: television, radio, and print. The researcher selected participants of the study were selected from grade four city branches of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. The data were collected through personal administration which resulted 185 valid responses. The present research investigates relationship between the personal belief dimensions, ‘product information’, ‘Falsity/credibility’, ‘hedonic/pleasure’ and specific attitude towards advertisings. It also tried to examine the relationship between the macro belief dimensions ‘Good for economy’, ‘Social image’, materialism and general attitude towards advertising. The researcher has also assessed the relationship between falsity/credibility and purchasing decision. Findings of the study show that macro level belief dimensions like ‘good for the economy ‘and ’social image’ are related positively to AG and ‘materialism’ is negatively related to AG. The three personal belief factors of ‘product information’, hedonic/pleasure, and falsity/credibility were found to be positively related to specific attitude towards TV, print and radio advertising. Credibility of media was also found to have a positive relationship with purchase decision.TV, Print, and radio ads of the bank were found to be informative, credible and hedonic respectively. Given this findings, it is recommended that the bank should exert its effort to make its TV and radio ads credible. Ads messages should be designed and executed to take advantage of the unique advantages rendered by each mediaItem The Status of Ethiopia’s Inter-country Adoption Policy Implementation: the Case of Key Stakeholders in Intercountry Adoption Process(Addis Ababa University, 2014-07) Getachew, Daniel; Terefe, Dereje (PhD)The main objective of the study is to investigate the challenges of intercountry adoption and come up with feasible policy alternatives that can contribute to the implementation of child rights in the country. A qualitative study is used which included both primary and secondary data. In order to achieve the results, purposive sampling is used in identifying and selecting appropriate organizations and respondents in the study. Relevant information was collected through key informant interview from experts of MoWCYA and four nongovernment organizations (2 local and 2 international). Data thematically organized and analysed qualitatively based upon logical and descriptive analysis. The study was able to find out that the Ethiopian government has adopted different policies and conventions on the right of children. Despite some notable progresses, child fundamental rights have remained major challenges in the country.Legislatives/policies introduced over the past years have not made significant difference to the implementation of alternative child care packages. Systemic inadequacies, illegal financial gains and corruption, child trafficking, buying selling, and abducting and falsification of documents have been recognized as major problems facing in the intercountry policy implementation. Therefore, effective implementation, monitoring and evaluation of pro-children policies/legislative have sought to decrease the prevalence of the problems. Wherever and whenever intercountry adoption is applied as a measure of last resort and before institutional care, it should be carried out based on the principle of the best interest of the child
