Item Effects Of Outsourcing Strategy On Operational Efficiency Among Ethio Telecom Zonal Offices(Addis Ababa University, 2018-06-04) Eshetu, Andualem; Jabana, Tariku (PhD)Outsourcing has become an important business strategy because it enables businesses to reduce and control operating costs, to improve company focus, to gain access to excellent capability and to free internal resources for other purposes. The concept of operational efficiency encompasses the practice of improving all of your processes (all your company’s activities that lead to your final product or service). Although there is substantial investment on telecom infrastructure and service expansion over the last decade aimed at improving the reach and capabilities of mobile networks in Ethiopia, the country’s mobile penetration (of active subscriptions) remained among the lowest in sub-Saharan Africa. The purpose of this study was to establish the effect of outsourcing strategy on operational efficiency among Ethio telecom zonal offices. The research objectives were: to establish the extent and nature of outsourcing strategy implemented, to find out the effect of outsourcing on operational excellence, to determine the effect of outsourcing on financial efficiency of operations, to establish the effect of outsourcing on brand-customer relationship capability of operations and to establish effects of outsourcing on operational responsiveness capabilities of Ethio telecom zonal offices. A correlational research design was adopted in this study. Stratified random sampling was used to select questionnaire respondents while purposive sampling was used to select interview respondents. Quantitative data resulting from the questionnaire was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences 22(SPSS) while qualitative data was analyzed using themes and presented in form the of narratives. From the data analysis, this study found out that business process outsourcing was most popular form of outsourcing used in Ethio telecom zones. Further, outsourcing had effects on operational excellence, and operational responsiveness capability while its effects on financial efficiency of operations and brand-customer relationship capabilities of operations were found to be statistically insignificant. From the findings, this study recommended increased supervision on performance of outsourced service providers to ensure they deliver agreed upon results, increasing the level of outsourcing from tactical to strategic then working towards transformational outsourcing and establishing proper communication on quality requirements of outsourced services. Furthermore, all parts of internal operations should be communicated with outsourcing decisions in order to put new policies or procedures into action at the right time.Item Evaluation of Ground Water Resources Potential of the Teji River Cathment South West Shoa Zone, Oromia Region(Addis Ababa University, 2008-01) Eshetu, Andualem; Kebede, Seifu(PhD)The groundwater potential assessment of Teji river catchment is important to the currently increasing demand of water resources for different developmental activities and its quantification is vital for the efficient and sustainable groundwater resource management. The most important parameter contributing to recharge in the area are rainfall, evapotranspiration rate, and soil types. The area has an annual rainfall of 1104mm. Quantification of potential and actual evapotranspiration of the area is made using different techniques. The results obtained from are compared and representative one is determined to the area and qualitatively described. Water balance studies of the catchment indicate that 325.39mm of water is recharged annually and the months October, November, December, January, February, March, April, and May have soil moisture deficit and the remaining months are soil moisture surplus. The main aquifer identified in the catchment is alluvial sediment, weathered and fractured ignimbrite, and weathered and fractured basalt. Graphical presentation using Piper, Shoeller, Stiff and Wilcox diagram have been used for the effective analyses and interpretation of data. The groundwater in the catchment is characterized by Ca-Mg-Hco3, Ca-Na-Hco3, Ca-Hco3 and Na-Hco3-cl type water. TDS, EC and PH values range 184mg/l-566mg/l, 354μs/cm-838μs/cm and 6.6-7.68 respectively. The water sample analyses made in the catchment indicate the water is suitable for domestic and agricultural purpose. Almost all the water samples analyzed are with in the limits of WHO water quality standards except bore holes drilled at Urogotade PA’s (fluoride = 1.68mg/l) and Asgori town (fluoride = 2.01mg/l & iron=0.39mg/l).Item Implementation of Environmental Impact Assessment Proclamation: Challenges and Constraints.(Addis Ababa University, 2011) Eshetu, Andualem; Bcdri, Abdlilhamid (PhD)The EIA proclamation No 29912002 is among the most ill1portant environlllentol legislations adopted by the country with a view to realize the constitutional rights of the people to live in healthy environment and to achieve sustainable development. However, there have been frequent instances of non compliance of projects with the relevant EIA law. Thus, the objective of this study is to indicate the challenges/or the effi!Ctive implementation of the EIA proclamation. In order to achieve the o~ject ive of the study, apart pom reviewing the relevant documentary . ~ literatures, questionnaire, key informant interview, andfocus group discussions were used as the major sources of data. Qualitative analyses were employed, and the analyses were multifaceted and iterative which eventually mirror out implementation challenges related with EIA regulatOlY regime, institutional capacity, judiciolsupport and incentive packages. The findings of the study revealed that, lack of adequate EIA supportive legislations and lack of institutional capacity on the side of relevant sectoral agencies were identified as major hindrance for the implementation of EIA law. Moreover, it is learned that the judicial support towards the enforcement of EIA has been totally neglected. EIA related violations were never reported to the police for prosecution leaving the EII1 enforcell1ent ineffective. Finally, the study indicates the absence of incentive packagcs towards EII1 prolllotion. There is no incentivc mcchanisll1s provided by the government and other stake holdersfrir the development projects and programs which have excellent £111 pel/ormance. Therefore, strengthening the legal foundation of£IA, improving the institUlional capacity of relevant environmental units, establishing PlL and improving the involvements of federal prosecution offices towards the enforcement of EIA related violations, and linking the provisions of inveslmenl incenlives wilh EIA pcrfimlloncc arc rccolllmended 10 improve thc ill1plell1cnlalion of the EIA legislation.
