Performance Evaluation of the First-Generation (1G) Color Plate Drug Susceptibility Testing Assay Identifying Drug- Resistant Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Isolates for Selected Anti- Tuberculosis Drugs
(Addis Ababa University, 2024-03-13) Binyam Mebrat; Alem mirit
Tuberculosis is a major global public health concern and the emergence of drug- resistant (DR)-TB has been a major challenge to the control of the disease, especially in developing countries, including Ethiopia. Despite availability of appropriate diagnostic tools for Mycobacterium tuberculosis drug susceptibility testing, accessibility and timely diagnosis of DR-TB in resource-constrained settings, such as Ethiopia, is often a challenge. The first- generation color plate assay (1G) is ideally suited for low resource settings due to low cost, minimal technical expertise needed, and rapid provision of DST results.
