Item Assessing Effect Of Manpower Training And Development On Project Performance: The Case Of Telecom Expansion Project (Tep) In Ethio Telecom(Addis Ababa University, 2020-06) Abera, Muluken; Tesfaye, Atsede (PhD)Training and development plays an important role in contributing to project performance. The significance of improved employee performance and job performance has been acknowledged in any organization and this improvement lies on the proper and effective training and development. The purpose of this study is to assess effect of TEP staff training and development in contributing to project performance at Ethio telecom. Both primary and secondary data were collected for the study. In order to collect and analysis primary data 132 staffs of core team and 3 key informant were taken. Questionnaires and interviews used as the method of data collection, and the data collected, analyzed using descriptive statics, correlation and regression analysis using SPSS. The specific objective of the study were grouped into five major sections that; assessing the objective of training and development, training and development need assessment, training and development delivery method, training and development effectiveness evaluation and training and development effect on project performance. The study indicated that 90.2% of the respondent was agreed that the training and development provided were good and relevant to objective of the project. The study also indicated that 76.5% of the respondent was agreed that the training and development needs assessment were conducted by the immediate supervisor in consultation with employee. The Project used both on the job and off-the-job training methods as ascertained by 81.8% of the respondents. It was also found that the TEP had exercised training and development effectiveness evaluation, as agreed by 84.1% of the participants, the training and development effectiveness were evaluated in terms of feedback received from coworkers regarding their job performance. The correlation of the study showed that there is significant positive relationship between three of the training practice, training objectives, need assessment and evaluation but no relationship between training methods implemented and project performance. Recommendation are provided on how to build effective training and development programme at ET. Furthermore, it is recommended for future researchers, to include all regional administrative of the company and to look the whole staffs including temporary employees by expanding to other graphical areas.Item Challenges in Implimentation of Football Project in Addis Ababa Administrative Region; the Case of Gullele and Addis Kettema Sub-City(2018-05-05) Abera, Muluken; Bezuneh, Sahilemichael (PhD)Youth football project development program is the most vital and important means in which players acquire different skills, technique, tactic, ability and knowledge that facilitate the important and development of player’s performance for youth football project is a very complex, long and continues educational process. This research in made with an aim of assessing the challenge of the implementation of youth sport program in perspective of organizational approach and capacity building, particularly youth football projects in Gullele and Addis kettema sub-cities of Addis Ababa City Administration. A total of 150 questionnaires have been distributed to respondents from four projects, 4 coaches, 2 sub-city sport officers were interviewed. A descriptive research method has been implemented and date gathered has been presented and analyzed in descriptive methsod. Accordingly the research revealed that training facilities and equipments were not in the expected level for the trainees and coaches, no a predetermined coaching style evidenced in the projects, Lack of training manual, trainee selection, availability of required training facilities and equipments, lack of proper follow-up and coach’s knowledge have been considered as factors affecting the effectiveness of the projects and absence of a unique selection criteria has been used in selecting trainees for the projects. To adequately improve the standard of sports and efficiency in implementing programs, training and development opportunities must be provided to sports practitioners, manuals and coaching kits shall be available, trainee selection criteria shall be designed and implemented.Item The Practice of Teaching the Listening Skill at Gondar Town Primary Schools: The Case of Grade 8(Addis Ababa University, 2008-06) Abera, Muluken; Ayalew, ElizabethThis study was conducted to look into how listening lessons are taught and how the listening sub-skills are treated in grade 8 at Gondar town. Class room observation, questionnaire and content analysis of the text book using the listening lessons were used as data collecting tools. Eight teachers were observed, each 3 times, using a checklist. All (30) grade eight English teachers, who were teaching in the 19 schools filled in the questionnaire. The 31 listening lessons in the text book and the teachers guide were also inspected. The data gathered using these tools was quantitatively analyzed using frequencies and percentages. The analyzed data showed that even though the teachers gave room to listening lessons, they failed to manage the listening lessons using the appropriate pedagogical procedures i.e. they did not employ the pre, while and post listening stages or activities and only very few listening sub-skills were practiced. More over the listening tasks were not designed in such a way that students can practice the various sub-skills. Finally, it was recommended that practical in-service trainings on how to teach listening skill should be given to the teachers and the procedures employed to teach the listening skill need to be included in the teacher’s guide.
