Item Agreements Between Radiological and Histo-Pathologic Diagnosis of Cases on Pre-op Neuro Radiology Session(Addis Ababa Universty, 2017-10) Abera Jemal; Abebe MekonnenIntroduction:Intracranial and spinal mass lesions are an important cause of neurological morbidity and common indication for cross sectional imaging. Given the wide range of pathological cases that can present as intra cranial mass lesions, the radiologist has an important role in limiting the differential diagnosis in clinical decision making process and in further management of cases. so far there are few reports on radiological and histological and pathology correlation done in Ethiopia and no report done giving emphasis on cases discussed on inter-departmental management session ; like , pre-operative Neurosurgery and radiological session. Thus, this research contribute the knowledge of the imaging appearance of various intracranial tumors and subsequently to improve the diagnostic accuracy and role of radiology in the management decision . Objectives: To assess the correlation of preoperative radiological diagnosis of lesions with histological diagnosis in Tikur Anbesahospital , Addis Ababa , Ethiopia , from January 2016 to August 2017 G.C. Methods: Hospital based prospective cross- sectional study was conducted on 78 patients who underwent surgery for the intra-cranial and spinal lesions at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in a period of 21 months from January 2016 to August 2017 G.C. Patients included here are those who had either CT or MRI or both report with confirmed histopathology result. Result: There was more than 80 % of concordance between pre operative radiologic diagnosis and histological diagnosis based on based on top diagnosis and first differential diagnosis given on neuro- radiology and neurosurgery joint session discussion in imaging evaluation of Glial tumor , Menigioma and Sellar/ Parasellarregin tumors. Conclusion: Glial tumor and Meningioma were the most frequent intracranial tumors presented. It was seen that pre operative radiologic diagnosis accuracy was high for most of intracranial tumor.Item Challenges of Youth Revolving Credit Fund Implementation in Addis Ababa City Administration: A Case of Gulele sub city (Woreda 7 & 8)(A.A.U, 2021-09) Abebe Mekonnen; Berhie ShumeyThe purpose of this study was to identify the challenges of Youth Revolving Credit Fund (YRF) implementation in Addis Ababa City Administration taking the case of Gulele sub city (Woreda 7 & 8). The study specifically aimed at assessing how Lack of Government Support, the credit procedures, the administrative commitment of the top management, and attitude of the beneficiary youths affect the implementation of the Youth Revolving Credit Fund in Gulele Sub-city of Addis Ababa City Administration. In attaining the objectives, the study employed a case study design with a mix of both a qualitative and quantitative research approaches. The study used a closed ended questionnaire and open-ended interview to collect primary data. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze frequencies, and percentages. Data analysis was conducted using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study findings were presented using tables and figures. The findings revealed that Manufacturing and Construction are the major sectors that Youth Revolving Fund program beneficiaries are involved followed by Trade, Service and Urban Agriculture. Lack of alternative job and the accessibility of YRF are the major reasons for the youths to start their business. The most difficult pre-conditions to get the Youth Revolving Fund are put in the order of getting loyal, committed and long-lasting business member for association, ten percent advance saving, legal requirements like license, authentication and tax identification number, getting of suitable business location and work place, prepare and summit sound and acceptable business proposal. Youth revolving fund beneficiary’s perception to micro and small-scale enterprise and its output were negative. The effort of government to change the attitude of youth revolving fund beneficiaries about micro and small-scale enterprise’s role, hard work habit and job creation were limited. There is a limited management experience in transforming the fund to the Youth Revolving Fund beneficiaries. Also, management ability in creating internal and external relationship is low. Credit procedure is not encouraging and there is a belief that Political favoritism is the main criterion for obtaining loan. Governments` support towards financial institutions to provide fund, training and skill upgrading for youth business leaders and entrepreneurs as well as the required business infrastructure arranged by the government is limited. Furthermore, the startup working capital provide to Youth Revolving Fund beneficiaries is not sufficient and didn`t found the right place to work. Most of the beneficiaries are not familiar with business/financial information. The study concluded that based on the findings and suggest recommendation based on the conclusions made.Item Retrospective Analysis of Brain MRI Findings in Patients with Clinical Diagnosis of Trigeminal Neuralgia in Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital and MyungSung Christian Medical Center(Addis Ababa University, 2025) Kebron Atnaw; Abebe MekonnenBackground: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a debilitating facial pain disorder most commonly caused by neurovascular compression (NVC) of the trigeminal nerve, as well as secondary and idiopathic causes. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a central role in identifying etiologies and guiding management, particularly in distinguishing clinically relevant neurovascular conflict from incidental contact. Objective: To describe MRI patterns in patients with clinically diagnosed trigeminal neuralgia and to compare neurovascular relationships between symptomatic and asymptomatic side. Methods: A retrospective multicenter cross-sectional study was conducted at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH) and Myung Sung Christian Medical Center (MCM), Ethiopia, including patients aged ≥18 years with a clinical diagnosis of TN who underwent MRI between January 2024 and December 2025. MRI scans were reviewed for neurovascular contact or conflict, secondary structural causes, and incidental findings. Paired comparisons between symptomatic and asymptomatic sides were performed using Mc Nemar’s test. Results: Thirty-four patients were included (mean age 53.2 ± 17.7 years), with equal gender distribution. Trigeminal neuralgia was predominantly unilateral (97.1%), more frequently affecting the right side (60.6%). Neurovascular compression was identified in 25 patients (73.5%), constituting the most common etiology. Secondary causes were found in 5 patients (14.7%), including multiple sclerosis and tumors, while 4 patients (11.8%) had normal MRI findings consistent with idiopathic TN. Neurovascular contact or conflict was significantly more frequent on the symptomatic side compared with the asymptomatic side (p < 0.001), and true neurovascular conflict was strongly associated with symptoms (p = 0.012). The superior cerebellar artery was the most commonly implicated vessel 21 (84%). Most patients were managed medically, while microvascular decompression was performed in 6 patients (17.6%) with MRI-confirmed NVC. Conclusion: MRI is a valuable tool in evaluating trigeminal neuralgia, demonstrating a high prevalence of neurovascular compression, particularly on the symptomatic side. Differentiating neurovascular conflict from simple contact is essential for etiological classification and surgical decision-making. Routine use of standardized high-resolution MRI protocols is recommended to optimize diagnosis and management of trigeminal neuralgia, especially in resource-limited settings.
