Item Clinical Profile and Outcome of Trauma among Adult Patient Treated at Alert Hospital Trauma Center Emergency Department Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2021.(Addis Abeba University, 2021-06) Abebe, Tesfaye; Dr.Kefyalew, Merahi(Emergency Physician); Abebe, Asmamaw(MSc IN EMCCN)Introduction: A traumatic injury can be caused by a wide range of blunt, penetrating, and other mechanisms. As a result, after a patient has sustained this injury, he/she may require immediate care. So, all aspects of trauma care systems, such as a powerful prehospital care system, skilled human power, facilities, equipment, and continuous supplies, must be in place for a successful outcome. Objective: This study is aimed to assess the clinical profile and outcome of trauma among adult patient treated at ALERT hospital trauma center emergency department Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from January 1/2019 to December 1/2020. Methods: A retrospective chart review study was performed during the time period of January 2019 to December 2020 on trauma patients treated to the trauma and emergency department of ALERT hospital. For statistical analysis, Epi-data version 4.6 and SPSS version 25 were employed, and Fisher's exact test was performed to determine the statistical association. Results: Male to female ratio was 259:103, with the 24–33 age group predominantly affected by trauma. The most common time of injury was 8–6 a.m., and the taxi was the predominant mode of arrival to the hospital (59.7%). Inter personal violence (IPV) is the most common accident, accounting for 31.8 %. Road traffic injury (R.T.I.) is the second most common cause of injury accounted for 30.7% of victims, three wheelers or Bajaj (45%) dominated over others vehicles. Mostly pedestrian was affected 62.1%. The Kampala severity score II (KTS II) were show milled trauma (82.3%), moderate trauma (11%), and severe trauma account (6.6%). Open wound/ Soft tissue injury (44.2%) and Extremity fracture (24%) were the frontrunners injury, with 11.3% of the victims were polytrauma. The mortality rate was 3.6%. Conclusions and recommendation: The injury was prominently IPV and RTA, the trauma victims were young. The focus should be directed to injury prevention and safety measures. Future studies can be directed to long term outcomes and follow up of injury victims to account for exact mortality and morbidity due to such unfortunate events.Item Dynamics of Degenerate Three-Level Laser(Addis Ababa University, 2016-02) Abebe, Tesfaye; Hirpo, Deribe (PhD)We analyze the quantum properties of the light generated by a three-level laser coupled to a vacuum reservoir. The three-level atoms available in the cavity are pumped from the bottom to the top level at a rate rda. Employing the pertinent master equation, we obtained the equation of evolution for cavity mode and atomic operators. Moreover, we have calculated the mean and variance of the photon number, the quadrature variance and the quadrature squeezing as well as the power spectrum for the cavity modeItem Eastern Nile River Basin Simulation with Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam / GERD(Addis Ababa University, 2015-05) Abebe, Tesfaye; Sileshi, Yilma(PhD)The Ethiopian government has conducted Integrated Water Resource Development Master Plan for the Blue Nile basin in 1998. The master plan has identified various irrigation and hydropower developments in the Sub basin. Since then, few projects have been implemented and some are under construction and the rest are at various levels of studies. This research is identified to evaluate and simulate the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam hydropower development opportunities in the Easter Nile basin and to assess the impacts on the downstream hydropower generation and irrigation developments and other water use systems. The thesis compiled recent studies in the basin and meteorological, hydrological and demand data for each hydropower and irrigation schemes have been considered for the analysis. Mike Hydro 2014 model and Nile Basin DSS (preliminary stage) used for the study for simulation of the river water based on the existing water requirement and user priority setting situation. The model is operated by using the monthly based data in both the demand side and supply sides. The water resources availability assessment and the allocations performed by different Scenarios. The impact of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Hydropower generation in the Eastern Nile River Basin is insignificant on the existing hydropower generation (present condition Sc-0) of the Eastern Nile River Basin. The scenario analysis result indicates that, the overall average power production during the 40 years of simulation is increased by more than 50% in the Eastern Nile River Basin. In the Roseri and Sennar, the average power production increased by 15% from the present (SC-0) condition. The Hydro power generation in the Aswan Dam is reduced by 9% from the present (SC-0) condition. Accordingly, the simulation result showed positive impact on the existing Irrigation development (present condition Sc-0) of the Eastern Nile River Basin. The impact of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Hydropower generation in Irrigation development in the Eastern Nile River Basin is significant on the existing Irrigation development on the downstream of Eastern Nile River Basin. The scenarios result illustrates the benefit for downstream courtiers, especially, in Sudan because of increased upstream regulation in Ethiopia. An overall improved coverage of the irrigation water demand (0 month of deficit with GERD, Sc-1, against 10 months of deficit without GERD, present condition Sc-0) in the Eastern Nile Basin. The average irrigation water demand deficit during the 40 years of simulation is reduced up to zero (no deficit) in the downstream Irrigation Scheme as shown in the simulation results. In the U/S Sennar and D/S Sennar, the average irrigation water demand deficit is reduced significantly up to nil. The irrigation water demand deficit in the Gzeria and downstream of Aswan Irrigation schemes are also reduced accordingly. The results in this research are preliminary and based on many assumptions. Where it has been possible to verify the simulations the model results are reasonable. Nevertheless, the current results must be treated with caution. The model need to be refined using improved estimates of stream flow data on the major tributaries and better estimates of irrigation demand at all schemes.Item The Migration of Professors from African Universities to the western world: The Case of Addis Ababa University Ethiopia(Addis Ababa University, 2013-06) Abebe, Tesfaye; Abebe, Dechasa(PhD)The aim of this study is to understand the major reasons of migration of academic intellectuals from Addis Ababa University to the developed world and to compare and contrast the brain drain from Imperial regime up to FDRE (1974-1993). The study will be used to find out the problem by analyzing the migration of academic intellectuals and to suggest alternative solutions. The study method was employed mixed method and is supplemented by available documents. Both narrative and survey research designs are used. The researcher divided the sampling frame into commonly selected strata (groups) of five Colleges and two Institutes arranged by strata. In the selecting process respondents were selected from each colleges and research institutes using stratified random sampling techniques. The data were gathered from AAU academic intellectuals, analyzed by using percentage, average (mean), descriptive words and the documents were incorporated to substitute the qualitative information. The data analysis and findings of this research showed that migration of academic intellectuals from AAU to the developed world is many factors such as: During Hile Selases regime no intellectuals turn over and they have no any economic problem and political persecution. During Derg regime the political persecution, refuges and killing intellectuals were high and the brain drain started on this regime. Also many AAU university intellectuals leave country on political persecutions, conflicts and war they have a big political problem but no economic. During current government since took power government dismissed 42 AAU academic intellectuals in 1993 it was major problem, the economic situation is too difficult, no political persecution and refugees it is too low. Therefore, many the AAU academic intellectuals leave the country on searching sufficient income, for survive and brain drain, brain circulation is too high on economic and technology cases. Finally some recommendations are forwarded: Policy makers to control this issue encourage on adjust housing, salary, creating conductive environment, attracting foreign intellectuals and both are should be knew university is not political and it is an area of academic, avoid conflict, take the responsibility on political issues, social situation and in democratic principles for the realization of better developmentItem The Practice and Challenges of Media Coverage in Reporting Tourism: In the Case of ETV News “Tena –Yistilign Ethiopia” News Package(Addis Ababa University, 2022-06) Abebe, Tesfaye; Mekasha (Asst. Prof.), MekuriaThe objective of this study was to explore the practice and challenges of tourism media coverage in the ETV "Tena-Yistilign Ethiopia" news package. The research design was descriptive research design. In addition to this, a mixed research approach is employed in this study. The data collection instruments were interviews and document analysis. An interview was conducted with the editor-in-chief, shift editor, producer, news anchor/host, and reporter. Document analysis was obtained from sixty-seven tourism news broadcasts from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. The findings of the study pointed out that the ETV news package has less attention to tourism reporting. The sources of information for tourism news stories are eventbased and government organizations. Some of the challenges of tourism reporting in the "Tena- Yistilign Ethiopia" news package were lack of interest and awareness of tourism reports as well as media roles, lack of infrastructure, lack of information, and time constraint. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations are forwarded: The management of the "Tena-Yistilign Ethiopia" news package should give due attention to tourism and assign professionals who are able to produce well-planned, organized, and quality tourism news and programs so as to promote media coverage of tourism reporting. The journalists need to be well informed about tourism and work hard to promote the sector in their news packages. The media management and other stakeholders should provide training to media and tourism professionals, tour guides, and other stakeholders to help encourage the sector's concerned bodies.Item Teaching Writing in Grade Eleven: The Existing Practice Versus the Controlled and the Guided Methods(Addis Ababa University, 1991-06) Abebe, Tesfaye; Gamta, Tilahun (PhD)this is an experimental study to determine the effectiveness of the existing practice in contrast with controlled and guided methods of teaching English writing to grade eleven Ethiopian students. To conduct the experiment, four sections of grade eleven students divided into two groups i.e. control and experimental were organized, '1'0 dete rmine whether there is a significant difference between the control and experimental groups in their English writing ability, a pre-test was given to both groups before the commencement of the study. The result of the pre-te st clearly showed that there was no significant difference between them. After preparing two sets of teaching materials and instructing each group for three and half-months, a posttest was administered to both the control and experimental groups. 'l'he result of the post-test clearly indicated that the experimental groups showed a considerable improvement over their pre-test results. The control groups, on the other hand, showed little or practically insignificant improvement. Using the relevant statistical tools, a hypothesis test was made based on the pre and post results. The result of the hypothesis test strongly supports the adaptation of the Alternate Hyp o thesis. In other words, introducing the controlled and guided methods of teaching the writing skill in the Ethiopian secondary schools could help to bring about , effective communication in English writing.
