Item Design and Implementation of Mobile Based Patient Follow-Up System(Addis Ababa University, 2011-08) Abebe, Daniel; Atnafu, Solomon (PhD)Healthcare organizations are required to give prompt services and follow-up for patients. They rely on data and information for every aspect of their delivery. Huge amounts of data are generated in a mostly unstructured paper environment and this leads them to give low quality healthcare service. Today, it is hard to imagine healthcare without Information and Communication Technology (ICT). ICT has a capacity to transform the health industry and the way it manages its data, information and knowledge as well as to revolutionize the way in which clinicians work. Mobile phone usage and communication offers an effective means of bringing healthcare services for developing countries. The penetration of mobile phone networks globally leads several millions of citizens that never had regular access to fixed-line telephone or a computer. Nowadays mobile devices are highly regarded as daily tools for communication and data transfer. This growing ubiquity of mobile phones is a central element in the promise of mobile technologies for health. This project design and implement a Mobile Based Patient Follow-up System using Amharic and English language. It provides continual follow-up for out-patients and prevents them from traveling long distance for follow-up from resource-poor environments. It also creates an opportunity for health professionals and patients to stay in contact. In addition, it can be used as a tool to increase the level of support and information available to patients and health workers. These positive changes can result in reduced hospitalization rates as well as a decrease in the number of days spent in hospital. The government has had a substantial and persistent size in the economy over these years. The dynamic effect of fiscal policy on macroeconomic variables is, however, far from being obvious. The objectives of this study are, therefore, to empirically characterize the dynamic effects of net government spending, net tax revenue as well as disaggregated government spending components on key macroeconomic variables in Ethiopia using quarterly data over the period 1998/99:1-2010/11:4. A five variable and six variables SVAR models are constructed and the Blanchard and Perotti (2002) approach is employed to identify structural innovations. Impulse responses and variance decompositions are then estimated, respectively, to trace out the dynamic effects and unveil the relative importance of shocks in explaining the endogenous variables in the models. To substantiate the result, the recursive identification approach based on Cholesky decomposition is also used. Government expenditure shocks are expansionary and have inflationary impact at least in the short term. Tax shocks, on the other hand, have positive effect on output through increasing expenditures and have little impact on inflation. In view of the narrow tax base, there is a need to enhance the capacity to collect and administer tax. In normal times capital spending are more expansionary. Current spending can be used to stimulate the economy at the expense of lower output in the long run.Item The Impact of ATM Service Quality on Customer Satisfaction and Future Prospects :In the Case of CBE(Addis Ababa University, 2014-05) Abebe, Daniel; Abebe, ayele (PhD)Currently the banking service is well equipped with innovations and as the application of the technology in the banking industry is becoming so significant firms have made huge investment on technology based banking and shifting from bricks and mortar banking to such branchless mode of banking . Following such shift customers are also shifting to technology based banking service due to perceived usefulness, convenient to use , privacy and freedom of mobility. Thus the objective of the study was to examine the effect of ATM Service quality dimensions on customer satisfaction and future prospects of ATM in the case of CBE. With a high emphasis, a quantitative approach based on a convenience sampling technique was used, in which a structured survey questionnaire was employed to collect data from the customers. Also with less emphasis a qualitative method which is a structured interview was used to collect data from the bank. For data analysis a descriptive and inferential statistics were used while to aid computation SPSS was applied. The results of the study reveal that the effect of ATM service quality dimensions on customer satisfaction and future prospects of ATM is direct and significant. Also the results show that the effect of customer satisfaction on future prospects of ATM is direct and significant. More than 60% of respondents signed on positively showing that customers have interest and found out convenient to use the banking technology instead of having interaction with human tellers. It also allows customers to transact their banking service quickly, it saves time, their personal information is not misused by their bank ,support service is good. Hence it can be concluded that the overall application of CBEATM banking has a bright future in the Ethiopian banking industry and CBE has a chance to mobilize the potential customers and reap more profits through provision of quality service using the banking technology as an interface. To improve the service delivery and thereby standardize the service offering the bank has to work hard more on the technology based banking such as ATM in such a way that it can bring standardization of offerings and create more conducive technology based banking environment which is convenient and accessible with more freedom mobility. Also the bank has to increase features and improve the facilities of the technology based banking service in such a way that customers can receive a wider range of financial services. Specifically providing simple, differentiated customer-focus services based on changing and growing customer behavior and preferences. Studies conducted by (Ramsay and Smith 1999; Patricio et al. 2003; Lang and Colgate 2003) cited in AL-Hawari etal.(2005) show that customers prefer to use in combination the technology (ATM, internet and mobile banking) and yet the focus of this study was only on ATM banking service. So further research may assess the effect of ATM, internet and mobile banking in combination so that more insights will be generated. Finally as the study is cross-sectional in its nature and only the relationships instead of the causal direction was addressed, future studies can use the longitudinal studies to show the confirmation of causality.Item The Relevance of Style and Structure in the Creation of Social Interaction in Passion’s Treasure(Addis Ababa University, 2012-05) Abebe, Daniel; Sharma, Pradeep (PhD)The aim of this research paper was to investigate the relevance of style and structure in the creation of social interaction in Passion’s Treasure. In doing this, the study employed qualitative research method specifically case study. To proceed the process, the study uses five chapters with various sub topics The first chapter maintains how the study was going to be studied. This means it gives relevant highlight from where the study began and stopped. The second chapter regulates the review of theoretical aspects. To formulate effective systems, various approaches should be seen deeply and thoroughly. To enhance persuasive findings, new approaches were expected to regulate the analysis. Therefore deviation through contractual sequence, repetition through characterization and parallelism through plot were taken to facilitate the coming chapter. The third chapter entrusts or entrenches the analysis of the novel Passion’s Treasure using the framework that was designed in chapter two. The fourth one made intensive discussion about what we had said previously. That is brave discussion about the outcomes of style and structure to create social interaction. The last chapter concludes the whole study and findings at once with the structure of the novel Passion’s Treasure in the form of chart.
