Item Assessment of Knowledge and Attitude Towards Assisted Reproductive Technology Among Women Attending Infertility Clinic, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia(Addis Ababa University, 2025-06-12) Eman Nassir; Jembere Tesfaye; Mesfin AbebeBackground: Assisted reproductive technologies (ART) are effective fertility treatments involving eggs or embryos outside of a body. Despite their growing use and success, many women still lack adequate understanding of the treatment. Assessment of knowledge and attitude is significant in clearing the misconceptions and myths about assisted reproductive technology. Objective: The main of object of the study is to assess knowledge and attitude towards assisted reproductive technology among women attending infertility clinic, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2025. Methods: An institutional cross-sectional study design was conducted among 408 infertile women attending an infertility clinic, selected using simple random sampling from February 30- April 30, 2025.A sampling frame was prepared using a daily list of eligible women. Data was collected through structured interviewer-administered questionnaire using the kobo Toolbox. The collected data were exported to an Excel spreadsheet and subsequently imported into SPSS version 25 for analysis. Variables with a p-value of < 0.25 in bivariate were a candidates for multivariate and those variables with a p-value of <0.05 in multivariate logistic regression were considered as a statistically significant factors for knowledge and attitude of ART. Result: A total of 408 study participants with a response rate of 96.6% were included in this study. Among the participants 65.4% have inadequate knowledge and 62.3% of them exhibit unfavorable attitude. Participants younger than 34 years, less than 5 years duration of infertility, paternal educational level of college and above and favorable attitudes were positively associated with better knowledge of ART. In turn those with adequate knowledge and prior awareness about ART were significantly more likely to have favorable attitude towards ART. Conclusion: A significant proportion of women attending infertility clinic had limited knowledge and unfavorable attitude towards ART. These findings highlight that the need for context-specific educational interventions and community involvement techniques to promote greater knowledge and acceptance of ART.Item Assessment of Knowledge and Practice of Breast Self Examination among Female Undergraduate Students in Addis Ababa University, College of Bussiness and Economics, Ethiopia.(Addis Abeba Universty, 2016-05) Mikiyas Amare; Mesfin AbebeBackground: Breast self-examination (BSE) is a simple, very low cost, non-invasive screening method used to detect breast cancer early which involves the woman herself looking at and feeling for any change in their breast as early as possible. Breast self-examination should be done for all women above the age of 20 years. Objective: To assess the knowledge and practice of breast self-examination among female undergraduate students in Addis Ababa University, College of Business and Economics, Ethiopia. Method: Institutional based crosssectional study was conducted to assess the knowledge and practice of breast self-examination among female undergraduate students in Addis Ababa University, College of Business and Economics. Departments were selected from College of Business and Economics by using lottery method. Then a simple random sampling technique was used to select a total of 407 female students from each department. Data was collected by using self-administered, structured and pre tested questionnaire from February 1-30, 2016. Quantitative method was employed to achieve the research objective. The data was entered into Epidata and analyzed by Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) window software. Binary logistic regression and multiple logistic regressions were done to confirm association between variables. Result :A total of 407 respondents were enrolled in the study giving a respondent rate of 100%. 203(49.9%) of respondents had a good knowledge of BSE. Only 87(21.4%) of the study participants ever practiced breast self examination. The three main reasons for not doing BSE were didn’t know how to perform BSE 95(29.7%), had no breast problem 81(25.3%), and carelessness 67(20.9%). Previous place of residence, attitude of BSE and knowing someone suffer from breast cancer found to be significantly associated with knowledge of BSE. Breast self-examination practice had showed significant association with family history of breast cancer, knowledge and attitude of BSE. Conclusion: This study revealed half of study subjects have good knowledge of BSE however, majority of study subjects didn’t ever practice BSE. Thus warrant to the concerned bodies for creation of awareness about breast self-examination and training students how to practice BSE.Item Psychosocial and educational challenges of SWHI in inclusive with reference to Awassa School for the Deaf(Addis Ababa University, 2006-06) Mesfin Abebe; Tirussew TefferaThe main focus of this study was to identify the psychosocial and educational challenges that SWHI face, the factors that contribute to challenge and explore the necessary interventions that need to be taken to create conducive environment for hearing impaired students. Based on the finding of the study suggestion are presented to help deliver effective education for hearing impaired students attending inclusive education schooling at SWHI. The study utilize qualitative and quantitative approaches of researce. Sources for data collection consist of primary and secondary source including relevant literature, observation, and response to interviews and questionnaire. The study revealed that most Will face psychosocial challenge i.e. rejection by their teachers and hearing peer, they suffer stress , frustration and were unhappy in their daily academic competitions with hearing students in inclusive educational setting. The factor that may be contributing to psychosocial challenges of SWHI are mainly related to the negative attitude of the teacher's, hearing students and school community, the existing communication barriers. the absence of sign language kills among teachers and unequal treatment of SWHI compared with the hearing students in inclusive classes. Study also revealed that the profound and pre lingual deaf student have faced serious educational challenges whereas hard of hearing and post lingual deaf student have demonstrated equal academic achievement with average hearing students in all inclusive educational setting. The factors that affect the education of SWHI in inclusive education might be the degree of hearing status, the age of onset of the impairment, and communication problem. Furthermore, the absence of a resource room, lack of interpreters, lack of trained teachers in special needs education lack of appropriate teaching approaches and textbooks for SWHI, lack of sign language killed of teachers and lack of multidisciplinary coordination were b contributing to educational challenge of SWHI in an inclusive education. Finally . based on the finding. it was recommended that the government issue policy with clearly stated guidelines for special needs education and open sufficient teacher training program for long term and short term purpose. Curriculum designers should give special consideration to allow flexibility modification, substitution, exemption a well as compensation in order to the diverse educational need of children in an inclusive school program . Moreover. the study it recommended that school should provide awareness creation program about WSHI and sign language training for teachers, It i also recommend that teachers need to be innovative, flexible, creative, willing to learn from the learner and be capable of initiating active learning. Furthermore, teachers should work out the necessary modification and adaptation of educational materials, methodology, facilities, equipment and environmental conditions.
