Item The Prevalence of Domestic Violence in Pregnant Women Attending Antenatal Care During Their Current Pregnancy at Selected Hea lth Facilities in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 201(Addis Ababa University, 2013-10) Abdurashid, Ruman (PhD); Michael, Haile (PhD)Domestic Violence (DV) is most prevalent in every sector of society, but less recognized and poorly add ressed socia l stigma. DV is usually expressed in psychological, phys ica l and sexual abuse infli cted by c lose partners. The objective of this study is to assess the prevalence, factors associated with Domestic Violence, and women perception on violence during pregnancy among currently pregnant women attending Ante Natal Care (ANC). For the purpose of this research, faci l ity based cross sectional study was under taken among 360 pregnant women age 18-49 who came to three health facilities for antenatal vis it (one Hospital and two Health Centers) Gandhi Memorial Hosp ital, Kolfe, and Nefas Silk Lafto Sub City Wereda -3 Health Centers from May l3 to 24, 20 13. Methodologica lly quantitative data collection tool were employed using structured questionna ires. Binary descriptive statistics and multivariate analys is were used to analyze the collected data. The finding indi cates that the prevalence of violence in life time in one or another form is 109 (3 1.3%) and 102 (29.3%) during current pregnancy by their partners. The study revealed that undes ired pregnancy and alcohol consumption by partner is significantly associated with violence. To concl ude, most of the perpetrators of DV is male partners, it is paramount important to create awareness on violence against women via soc ial interact ion groups like " Idir" and through formal/ informal education and policy makers.
