An analytical study is performed to assess the effect of different shear wall area to floor area ratios on the response of high rise reinforced concrete buildings under earthquake loading. In order to achieve this a total of 116 building models that have 8, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 number of stories with different shear wall ratios are generated. The seismic response of this building models are examined by performing response spectrum analysis using ETABS 16.2.0 software program. Variation of the main parameters that affect the seismic performance of buildings, which are inter story drift, roof top displacement and base shear responses, with varying shear wall ratios are studied and compared with the approximate results given by literatures. The analytical result shows that story drift decreases with increasing shear wall area to floor area ratios but, the rate of reduction is lower for higher shear wall ratios. Increasing shear wall area to floor area ratios beyond 2% has not significant effect on reducing story drift.en_US
