Abstract
The main pUlpose of this study was to investigate the contribution of Non-formal
TVET to the development of MSE in Addis Ababa City Admll11stl'ation. That is,
investigate Non-formal Technical and Vocational Education and Trainingprogram
contnbutes to the development of Micro and Small Enterprise and identify the
common targets to be considel'ed between Non -formal TVET and Micro and Small
i!.nte1p1ise, show the challenges fol' theil' effectiveness of Micro and Small
Ente1prise in terms of training. To this end de scriptive SUl'vey method was
employed. The Data fl'Om document analysis obsel'vation and interview was
analyzed qualitatively. For this study, foul' types of instrument were prepaI'ed; that
is 667 copies of qllestionnail'es 48 fol' Non -fOl'mal TVET tl'aine1'8, 199 for Non-fOlm al
TVET trainees, 120 for Non-fol'mal TVET graduates and 300 !o1' MSE opewtOl's
were prepared and administel'ed. Fl'Om these questionnaires 61 5 (92%) of copies
were filled and mtuI"ned to the researcher.43 (89.6%) fl'Om Non-formal TVET
trainers 199(JOO%) fi'om trainees, 104 (86.6%) from graduates and 269(89.6%) fiwn
MSE operatOl's. Data fiwl1 questionnaire were analyzed using stat1stical tools, s uch
as percentage mean standard deviation two-way ANOVA, independent sample ttest.
Moreover, 5 TVET team leaders, 10 Non-formal TVET institutions principal, 5
MSE team leaders and 10 MSE facilitators were selected through availability
samplin g involved in the intervi ew . From the data :malysis the cont1'1bution of NOll"
fOlmal TVET on the development of MSE was found challenged by many
constraints: Unava1lab1li~v of l abor market information, ins ufficient trainee, low
contribution of Non-fOl'mal TVET pl'Ogram to be prepal'ed self employment,
unavailability of educational matel'ial, lack of sklll development in order to sat1sfy
human needs of MSE, the padicipation of graduates in lV/SE activities was found to
be low, lack of adequate skill of MSE operatOl'fi and insufficient WOl*111g in
collaboration between them.
Themfore, it was suggested that restructure and design mal'ket-01'1'ented p1'Ogl'am
based on labol' m81*et, to fac1 litate pre"employment and on-the-job t1'a1ning to MSE
opel'ato1~ give attention to assigning the TVE'T g]'aduates to Micl'O and Small
Business activities. There fOl'e, they have effective working in collaboration
