Abstract

Reward and motivation are one of the ways to heighten the motivation is through effective reward system. The main aim of this study is to investigate the role of reward systems on employee’s motivation in the office of HPR of FDRE. The study employed a descriptive survey and inferred statics. The study targeted 385 employees from which stratified random sampling was utilized to select a sample of 105 respondents drawn from the population. The study employed a questionnaire to collect data from the respondents & interview with directorates. The collected data was analyzed and represented by use of frequency charts, bar graphs, and pie charts to tabulate the information gathered appropriately. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the hypothesis listed in the research question of the data. The study reveals the rewards offered by office of HPR of FDRE in terms of intrinsic, extrinsic, career development and learning opportunities were insufficient and cannot motivate employees. Job content satisfaction is the most important component of intrinsic reward; allowance & flexible wage increment are the components of extrinsic rewards. Within organization promotion as career developments and timely seminars to employees are rewards expected by employees in career development and learning opportunities as a reward from organizations. The result concludes that, with the advancement in intrinsic rewards, extrinsic rewards, the career development and learning opportunities, become the vital factor for the employee motivation. Besides this office of HPR of FDRE should consider for a more structured reward system that considers both organizational goal attainment & employees expectation rewards which in turn prospers high employee’s motivations. The study recommended that reward systems guidelines and objectives should be based on realistic and reliable criteria’s.
