dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to exam me the effects of science self efficacy, science achievement motivation, attitudes toward science and gender on science performance of high school students, and to show the difference between males and females among the variables. A total of 202 grade 10 students (108 males and 94 females) were involved in the study from Debre Brehan General Secondary School. A t-test and multiple regression analysis were employed to analyze the data. The result indicated statistically significant gender difference in science self-efficacy (chemistry, physics and biology) and science performance (chemistry, physics and biology). There were also significant gender difference in students' attitudes toward chemistry and physics. However, there were no significant gender difference in students' attitude towards biology and in science achievement motivation (chemistry, physics and biology). Multiple regression analysis also showed that science self-efficacy, SCIence achievement motivation, attitude towards science and gender significantly contributed to the variation in science performance. Because of the significance difference observed between male and female students, and significant contribution of independent variables on science performance, recommendations are forwarded for the concerned bodies.en_US
