The reaction of warm EtOH solutions of ninhydrin and thiosemicarbazide with NiCl2.6H2O (in EtOH) and Zn(AcO)2·2H2O yielded a tetrahedral and square planar complexes of Zn(II) and Ni(II) respectively in a 1:1:1 mole ratio using the template method of synthesis. The Schiff base, thus formed acted as a monobasic tridentate ligand via ONS binding sites. The compounds were characterized by conductometric, magnetochemical measurements, AAS, IR, NMR, and UV-Vis spectra. Besides, voltammetric study of Ni (II) complex was carried out in DMSO solution in the presence of supporting electrolyte to characterize its redox nature. The biological activities of the complexes were also investigated. Keywords: template synthesis, ninhydrin, thiosemicarbazide, antimicrobial activity, and voltammetric studies.en_US
