dc.description.abstractThe main purpose of this study was to assess the impact of budget and budgetary control system on effectiveness of public organizations in East Wollega Zone Finance and Economic Development Offices. Three Finance and Economic Development Offices with total employees of 150 were purposely selected from 19 Finance and Economic Development Offices in the Zone and are expected to represent all other offices. The required data to the researcher was collected from 150 employees of the selected three offices through questionnaire. The SPSS version 21 was used to analyze the data using descriptive statistics, including mean, standard deviation For this study, four independent variables were used including budget planning, budget monitoring and control, budget evaluation, and participative budget and dependent variable was organizational effectiveness. According to the research output, the practice of planning, monitoring and control and participation in East Wollega Zone Finance and Economic Development Offices was relatively low. Then, the researcher recommend that East Wollega Zone Finance and Economic Development Offices and other public sector organizations should understand the significant contribution of the budgetary control variables namely, planning, monitoring and control and participation to their effectiveness in the public sector offices and should improve their budgetary control systems thereby enhance effectiveness.en_US
