Abstract
The mqjor purpose oj this stlLdy was to assess the management oj
(gouernmeni) s econdary schools euening education in Addis Ababa by
taking Gulele Sub-City as a case. Quantitatiue method was usedJor
the study purpose. The data collecting instruments were the
que stionnaires. The major SOlLrces oj data Jor the stlLdy were
secondary school euening teachers. adult learners. Hence. 54
secondary euening school teachers and 176 euening adult learners
were selected Jrom the sampled population by using simple random
and systematic sampling techniques respectiuely. The responses
obtained Jrom the respondents were systematically tallied. tabulated.
analyzed and narrated in terms oj statistical tools such as percentage.
mean and standard deuiation. The main Jindings were managerial
problen;s at all leuels resulting Jrom lack oj paying due-attention in
controlling. superuising. directing, eualuating and prouiding
instructional support. Lack oj designed and releuant curricullLm to the
euening schools was the other mqjor problem The major drawbacks
concluded were lack oj organized management system to run the
instructional process, lack oj experienced euening teaching staJJ in
handling udult learners in the selected secondary euening schools to
bring qlWlity edlLcation. Ii is recommended that the secondary euening
school principals and the adhoc euening commiiiee with the other
euening schools community must pay attention in stre ngthening the
managerial and instTlLctional processes to obtain the required quality
education and to keep its releuance by emplo!-)ing appropriate aduli
curriculum.
