A new quinoxaline derivative (NHOPD) was synthesized by a one step reaction between ninhydrin and o-phenylenediamine . It formed metal complex when reacted with CuCl2.2H2O in ethanolic chloroform medium .The quinoxaline derivative(NHOPD) was characterized on the basis of IR,NMR,MS and UV-VIS spectral data. The Cu-NHOPD complex was characterized by analytical, conductivities, spectral (AAS,IR,UV-VIS) and magnetic data. Involvement of exocyclic carbonyl oxygen and one of the quinoxaline nitrogen in coordination was concluded, such that the ligand behaved as a neutral ON bidentate. Conductance measurement indicates a 1:2 electrolytic nature of the complex .Electronic spectral and magnetic susceptibility data suggest square planar geometry for the complex with molecular formula [CuL2]Cl2.2H20 (L=NHOPDen_US
