dc.description.abstractThe aim of this study was to investigate how writing is taught in Gudeya Jare Secondary School. In this study, questionnaires and interviews are the main tools used for data collection. The collected data were analyzed and described quantitatively and qualitatively. The data gathered through interview were qualitatively analyzed and described through discussions whereas the data obtained through questionnaire were analyzed quantitatively by using percentages. The results from the questionnaires and interviews pointed out that the process approach was being employed along with the product approach. The reason why the process approach is preferred from product approach is the process-oriented writing approach develops language skills and generates ideas and organizations. Finally, the conclusion drawn from the study is that English language teachers in Gudeya Jare Secondary School gave attention to the product aspects of teaching writing, teachers were not interested to teach the writing activities and the students also did not practice the writing skill in the lower grades .Lastly, I recommended that English language teachers the product and the process aspects of teaching writing and should have interest to teach the writing skills. And also, the students should be confidence and having interest to write in English as well as the students should be hard work and practice the writing skill.
