Abstract

Training and development is a planned, continues effort by management to improve employee competency levels and organizational performance through training, education, and development programs. Today human resources occupy, more than ever, the center stage of economic activities. Thus the objective of the study is to investigate the effects of T &D Practice on job satisfaction in prospects of Bank of Abyssinia. The sample size of the study was 85 employees who were selected through purposive random sampling technique to distribute the questionnaire. This study is restricted to head office staff and four branches and quantitative in its approach and explanatory in its design. Based on the descriptive report 86 % of the respondents disagree that L& d programs are conducted both the need of the bank and employee. Hence the bank should consider involving employee s when giving the learning and development programs. With regards to design, employees of Abyssinia bank believe that the learning and development programs are designed and well planned in advance, adequate and important which also consists both on job and off job. On the other hand the employees complain that the programs are not designed based on need assessment. The implementation practice of the learning and development programs was analyzed as the contents of the trainings are relevant to the changing needs of the job and it helps to upgrade knowledge and skill. On the other hand the employees feel that the learning and developing programs focus only in some work unit, does not give equal opportunities and it is not fairly distributed among all the staffs of the bank. Finally form the analysis of the study it can be concluded that training and development practice has a positive effect on the job satisfaction
