dc.description.abstractThe objectives of this study were to investigate the prevalence of cheating behavior in Maths learning among 9'h graders and factors predicting this behavior ( i.e. , mastery goal, performance approach goal. peljormance avoidance goal, gender and age). A total of 393 9''' graders (198 males and 195 females) were randomly selected from six govemment schools of Addis Ababa as subjects. Data were collected using questionnaires. One sample t-test was employed to determine the prevalence of cheating behavior. Moreover, regression analysis was also employed to determine predictors of cheating behavior. The one sample t-test result indicated that there is less prevalence of cheating behavior in Maths. It was also found that mastery orientation negatively predicted cheating behavior whereas performance avoidance orientation positively predicted cheating behavior. Sex. age. and pelfonnance approach goal did not predict cheating behavior significantly. Recommendations to promote mastery orientation and reduce peiformance avoidance orientation of the students were forwa rded.en_US
