Background: Malnutrition and HIV/AIDS are common problems in sub-Saharan countries including Ethiopia. They are closely interlinked conditions. Their combined effect is more severe in children and is a cause for greater morbidity and mortality in those children. In children with severe malnutrition, the risk of death is three to four times higher in HIVinfected children. Objective: The aim of this study is to assess determinants of Severe Acute Malnutrition among HIV positive children receiving HAART in Public health institutions of North Wollo zone, Northeastern Ethiopia, 2019. Methodology: Institutional based unmatched case-control study will be conducted on 204 HIV positive children (68 cases and 136 controls). Data will be collected retrospectively (secondary data) and by interviewing of attendants (primary data) from March to May/ 2019 and will be entered to Epi Data Version 4.2.0. Binary and multiple logistic regressions will be employed by SPSS version 23 and results will be presented by narration, tables, graphs and charts. Budget plan: a total of 26, 550 ETB will be needed to accomplish this research.en_US
