Abstract

The main purpose oI this study was 10 exallline the level of job satisfaction oI TVET teachers, to identi!), the major internal and external faClors that affect their job salis/aclion and 10 recomll1.elld the possible SlrclIegies /0 be sel /0 enhance the mOlival.ion and job satisfaction of'teachers oI TVET colleges in Addis Ababa. To conduct this study, descriptive survey method was employed. The study was conducted in lour selected TVET colleges ill Addis Ababa. Sun1ey questionnaires and interview question items were prepared and used as data gathering instrum,ents. The instrwnents were piloted before the major study was conducted. The major sources of the data to the study were TVET college teachers selected /rom, the sample colleges (N=197), jour deans and two deputy deans from the selected colleges and two leaders oI Addis Ababa TVET agency. In,_ selecting the sample colleges, purposive sampling technique was employed and to select the respondent teachers, stratified sampling method was used. The raw data collected from different sources were tabulated, organized and analyzed by using descriptive methods such as percentage and weighted mean. The results of the study revealed that the level of job satis/action of'the nwjority of' TVET teachers was found to be low due to insufficient satislying elements like low salary as compared to what teachers perceived to earn, poor working conditions without necessary instru.ctional materials and educational technologies and facilities, low professional status and recognition, poor communications between teachers and their leaders and poor technological Sltpport Irom college leaders and supervisors. Thus, problems relatel/ to insufficient salary sc~lle, poor work condition, poor communication between teachers and tnanagement and poor technical support from college leaders & supervisors need immediate improvement to enhance TVET teachers' job satis/action and theu to increase their c01l1mittnent to their profession.
