dc.description.abstractThe main objective of this study was to investigate the practices and challenges of teaching English reading comprehension skills at primary level with particular focus to grade five. From grade one up to four there were no phases of reading practices because of these students face challenges in grade 5. To gather data on the above main objective various instruments have been used. Total population of this study was 41 from this population 35 student and six teachers. The researcher used descriptive survey date design method and mixed sampling techniques. These were: classroom observation, students’ questionnaire and students’ interviews. The data were categorized and descriptively analyzed. Teachers were observed using the traditional way of teaching reading which is dominated by reading aloud. The techniques of reading such as pre- and post- reading were not used at all. To that end, this research paper provided recommendation that could bring about a change in the practice of teaching and learning reading for comprehension in this grade level .
