Abstract

The purpose of the stud y is to make the cultural content analysis of Oromo ethnic group in comparison w ith others Ethiopians ethnic groups . The reason for the comparison is multicultural education gives emphasizes to the diversity of ethnic g roup s c ulture to be includ ed in the teaching material s. Thus, the study was made to see the reflection of Oromo cu ltu re and oth ers Ethiopians ethnic gro ups culture in Engli sh textbooks of grade 9 and 10 .The qu a ntita ti ve a nd qual itative met hod s were used. Eng li s h grade 9 and 10 t extbooks were used as data sources. To make th e cu ltural co ntent ana lysis ca tegories and in stru c tion fo r cod in g were pr epared by th e resea rcher. The researc her coded the tex tbook s a nd in vit ed co ders to code the te xtbooks. The coders were given orientation how to code the tex tb oo ks. They were a lso g iv en th e guideline th at helps th em to code the text books and the reliability was tested . For English g rade 9 textbook one and grade 10 tex tb ook two the reliability was not see n. But , for g rade 10 Eng li sh text boo k one, the reliability was noti ced. If it is not re li abl e Sa rankatos ( 1998) gives auth ority to the researcher to define a nd redefine . Th us, th e resea rc her defin ed some misconcept io ns of the coders a nd made th e c ul tu ral content analysis a nd fou nd out fi ndings and gave some reco mmendation.
