| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to investigate the problems of secondary eduction provision in West Wollega Zone, Oromia Region and thereby to forward recommendations for the improvement of the problems that the study brings to light. The areas of concern were the qualification of teachers, the provision of textbooks, the organization of school libraries, the provision of science education and also class size. Out of sixteen secondary schools operating in the zone, 7 of them were included in the study. Necessary data were gathered from zone and woreda supervisors, directors, teachers and students of the sample schools through a series of interview and a set of questionaire. Some of the major findings include: • About 21 percent of the secondary school teachers in the study area teach the subjects they were not qualified for; • Shortage of textbooks is acute at all stages; • The school libraries and science labratories do not provide satisfactiory services; • The number of students in a class is more than 81 in all the sample schools. Recommcndations for the mentioned points are: The responsible MoE in collaboration with regional government should seek ways to train more teachers and labaratory technicians. Furthermore, schools and WEO's sho Dld allocate a cetain amount of fund · for the purchase of reference books reg/Alarly every year. Finally,it is suggested that OEB need to build a standrdized secondary school at each woreda. | en_US |
