Abstract

This study aimed at investigating address the skill mismatch in technical and vocational education in TVET colleges in Nifas Silk Lafto Sub-city, Addis Ababa. The study employed a qualitative method. Specifically, interview was conducted with 32 respondents consisting of ten respondents (deans, vice-deans, trainers and department heads) and eight trainees selected form two government TVET colleges, four graduates; two officials form Addis Ababa TVET agency, and eight employers. Data collected was analyzed qualitatively with thematic analysis techniques. The integration of results from the qualitative method provided in-depth answers to the research questions. In addition, secondary data collection methods were used for the study which includes current training gaps (from literatures), review literatures on TVET education in Ethiopia and globally, review of TVET occupational standards and curriculum were conducted. The result shows that the skills that employer‟s desires are not being learned and practiced by graduates while they are in TVET College. Hence, skills mismatch observed in the graduates need to be addressed when providing training in TVET colleges. Key words: Skill Mismatch, Technical and Vocational Educational Training.
