Abstract
The multidentate ligand, BDTSTHEBD, was synthesized using precursors such as DAAP,
DAAD, BDTHEBD and thiosemicarbazide and was characterized by FTIR, NMR and
electronic spectroscopy. Co (II) and Ni (II)-complexes were synthesized using the ligand,
BDTSTHEBD, and respective metal chloride in a mole ratio of 1:3 and characterized by
analytical studies, FTIR and electronic spectroscopy, conductance, magnetic
susceptibility measurement and thermal analysis.
The non-electrolyte natures of the complexes were ascertained from conductivity
measurements. Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and thermal analysis (TA)
techniques were also used to characterize the metal complexes. UV-VIS and magnetic
susceptibility measurements indicate octahedral geometry for Co(II)-complex and
tetrahedral geometry for Ni(II)-complex.
Key words: Heterocyclic compounds, multidentate ligand, Co (II) and Ni (II)
complexes, thiosemicarbazide, synthesis of BDTSTHEBD.
