dc.description.abstract | Anthraquinones and a naphthoquinone have been isolated and characterized from the stem barks of S. jloribllllda and S. didymobofJya. The CH2CI2:MeOH (1:1) extract of the stem bark of S. jloribllllda yielded four bianthraquinones: floribundone-l (43), 5,7'-physcion-fallacinol (53), 5,7'-physcionphyscion anthrone (83), 5,5'-physcion-physcion anthrone (84) along with three common anthraquinones: physcion, chrysophanol and emodin. The isolation of 5,7'-Physcionphyscion anthrone and 5,5'-physcion-physcion anthrone is repOlied here for the first time. The CH2CI2:MeOH (1: I) extract of S. didymoboflya bark yielded four compounds: 2- methoxystypandrone (82), 10-( chrysophanol-7'-yl)-1 0-hydroxychrysophanol-9-anthrone (70), fallacinol (6) and 1O,lO'-bichrysophanol (59) along with the three common anthraquinones: physcion, chrysophanol and emodin. The elucidation of the structures was based on spectroscopic data and in some cases by direct TLC comparison with authentic samples. | en_US |
