Abstract

Training and development is an Investment rather than a cost to the organization. The utilization of all other resources directly depends on efficient utilization of human resources. Every organization needs to have well-trained and experienced people to perform the activities that have to be done. As jobs have become more complex in the banking sector, the importance of employee training and development has increased. A key for obtaining consistent success with training programs is to have a systematic approach to Training and development practices. Recognition of the Training and development of employees are crucial for the organization’s success. This study deles with training and development of bank employees of CBE and AIB. It was carried out with a total sample of 160 employees drown from 16 branches of both CBE and AIB in Addis Ababa. A structured questionnaire is administered to all the respondents under the sample. certain aspects of training and development practices - Training policies and objectives, methods and Effects and benefits of the training of the banks. The finding of the study shows that there is no statistically significant difference and there is also a gap between the ideal training and development practice and the actual practices employed by the banks studied.
