Mechanism of flexural failure of a rectangular reinforced concrete beam was much simpler to understand as compared to shear failure. In fact shear failure of reinforced concrete beams is a very complex phenomenon due to involvement of too many parameters. In spite of many decades’ experimental research and use highly sophisticated analytical tools shear failure is not yet fully understood. Furthermore if a beam is not properly designed shear reinforcement is overloaded to failure shear collapse is likely to occur suddenly with no advance warning of distress. This is in strong contrast with the nature of flexural failure. Though aggregate interlock is one of the determinant behavior in shear, its behaviors and contributions are not clearly stated yet on shear. But scholars have figured out that the shear stress that can be transmitted along cracks is related to concrete strength, crack width and aggregate size. From among factors that determines the shear performance of RC beam we want to identify the effect of aggregate size. Here we are always controlling the other parameters that determines the shear performance of RC beam. Objective of this research was to identify how aggregate size will influence the shear strength of reinforced beam with shear reinforcement. And with specific objective to analyze the effects of aggregate size on shear strength. To determine size effects numerically (i.e. the effective diameters of aggregate for shear performance). To recommend the most effective aggregate size for shear performance of reinforced beam with shear reinforcement. This research paper is based on the experimental results of eight (8) RC beams test as specimen by changing the aggregate size and by controlling the other parameters to analyze the impact of aggregate size on the shear performance of RC beam with web reinforcement. After performing an experimental program at AAiT construction material laboratory on different nominal aggregate sizes; it was noticed that, as the aggregate size increase there is a significant increase in shear performance and an increase in the ductility of RC beams that has been under examinations.en_US
