Abstract
The Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model has been used to simulate clouds
and their e ects on precipitation over Ethiopia. The results have been compared with the
Global Precipitation Climatology Center (GPCC) observations. This study identi es the
precipitation capturing skill of the ten microphysics in weather research and forecasting
(WRF) model during three years namely; El Ni~no, La Ni~na, and Normal years. The study
domain covers Ethiopia with 10 km by 10 km horizontal grid resolution. The statistical
tools used are correlation coe cient (R), bias, mean absolute error (MAE), and root mean
square error (RMSE).
The analysis has shown that precipitation capturing skill of most microphysics are almost
the same for all years. The result has pointed out that Morrison 2-moment, Thompson,
and WSM6 are the best three microphysics for El Ni~no year; Thompson, Goddard,
and Morrison 2-moment are the rst 3 microphysics for La Ni~na year; and Thompson,
Goddard, and Morrison 2-moment become the best 3 microphysics for Normal year
