Abstract
The thermal neutron flux of a 241Am-Be (),nαsource available in AAU (Science Faculty) is determined using neutron-activation method of KI target which is 99.99% pure. The flux is measured relative to 127I, whose cross-section is taken be equal to 6.2barns. So the thermal neutron flux of the neutron source for the reaction 127I (n,y ) 128I has been determined to be 1.0628X104 neutron/m2 sec. In addition to this by measuring the 42K activity induced in potassium (within KI) by a thermal neutron irradiation of the experimentally determined flux, the thermal neutron capture cross-section for the reaction 41K (γ,n) 42K has been determined to be 1.43barns
