Abstract

The solid waste disposal method is most challenging in Addis Ababa city. The most known disposal site in Addis Ababa is ―Rappi" or "Koshe" which is in south west part of the City, 13 km away from the city center. The disposal method is traditional. However, the solid waste material is needed to cut and use for the recycling and reduction of the solid waste material; where we need modeling of solid waste shredding cutter. This thesis deals with modeling of solid waste shredding cutter by using FEM. One particular existing Solid Waste Shredder Cutter was Design and production of Plastic Shredder Machine. Machine was selected for the studying model 1 that is existing cutter and the others are modified models by increasing the number of blade and cutter thickness. Analytical analysis of distribution of contact cutting effect along the cutting direction of cutter caused by applied force was solved by using separation method based on models 1, 2, 3 and model 4 shredder cutters. The material is used for finite element model of cutter drawing using the CATIA software. Finite element simulation for contact force and von misses stress were carried out using CATIA workbench for the case of the structural analysis of cutter was performed by applying applied force. The contact force and Von Misses stress are calculated analytically where CATIA workbench results are presented in contour plot and numerically for four models. As force applied on Model 1,2,3 and Model 4 increases, Von misses stress increases, and deformation of cutter at tip also increased however, the concentration stress and deformation is better in Model 2 than the others models. Finally, stainless steel is recommended and selected because the stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and effective than Tungsten carbide. And model 2 is the deformation result and Von Mises stresses are better effective than the other models.
