dc.description.abstractThis study was carried out with a general objective of investigating challenges that contributed for under-representation of women in leadership position and the organizational performance of CBO. The research investigated factors that contributed for under-representation of women in leadership and organizational performance of CBO by taking the case of women headed City branches in comparison with the overall performance of CBO. Set of blended tools and techniques of data collection and analysis were employed in this study which are meant for collecting ample information and data to effectively address the study objectives. The data were analyzed using a statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) and Microsoft excel. The method of analysis used for this research is descriptive statistics such as frequencies, mean, and percentages. The study indicates that demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the respondents, particularly, age, education level, family size were identified as factors that have contribution for representation (under-representation) of women in leadership position. The study also indicated societal, organization and individual/personal related factors are responsible for under representation of women in leadership position at CBO. The finding of the study revealed that women headed city branches of CBO have positive and increasing rate of contribution to the overall organizational performance of CBO implying that women in leadership position are source of high organizational performance. The study recommends that a comprehensive and all rounded measure are necessary so as to improve the current status of women in leadership position. In addition, introducing regular campaign to create awareness about the importance of promoting women in leadership and continuous campaign should be organized through trainings, workshops and various events that can be organized regularly are essential measures for improving the status quo. Putting in place coaching and mentoring system that provide special support for women employees help them develop their leadership skill and encourage them aspire to the leadership positions. It is also recommended that there has to be policies, and rules that introduced quota system that aimed at giving women opportunities for leadership positions.
