Abstract
The objective of this study is to assess the effect of organizational culture on army forces commitment in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Ministry of Defense Force Headquarter. The research design applied in the study by the researcher is explanatory study. In addition to this, Quantitative approach has been applied to answer the research questions. The researcher collected primary data by using five Point Likert-Scale questionnaires and secondary data of institutional documents are used to state the problem in the institution. The target populations of this research were 168 army members. Out of this 118 members were taken as a sample size. Stratified random sampling technique has been applied in the study to make strata among departments. The data has coded and edited by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and then analyzed through descriptive statistics instruments such as frequency, percent, mean and standard deviation. Correlation and regression analysis are implemented to analyze the relationship between independent and dependent variables of the study and to examine the effect of organizational culture variables on the army forces commitment respectively. The independent variables of the study are teamwork/morale, communication, training/development, reward/recognition, mutual trust, organizational honesty/open channels, Pay and allowances, discipline/authority/ standards, traditional values, and family balance/support whereas the dependent variables are affective and normative commitment. The finding proved that these variables of organizational culture explain 67% of the variation in total commitment. The result shows that training and development, reward system, pay and allowance, teamwork/morale of the members and the work-life balance that exist in the specified area are found at an unsatisfactory level. Particularly those pay and allowance, mutual trust, teamwork/morale of army members, organizational honesty/open channel and discipline/authority/ standard variables are the five better predictors of army forces commitment respectively .The researcher then recommends the institution to give high concern particularly for pay and allowance of army members by increasing the base pay and contingent pay of army members as well as designing proper working conditions allowances and stand-by or call-out allowances. The researcher also recommends the institution should develop and strengthen the available sound mutual trust among army members under the study
