Abstract

1 ,4-benzoquinone modified carbon paste electrode is used for the determination of caffeine in coffee by square wave voltammetry, Voltammetric studies showed that the peak current of l,4-benzoquinone decreases with increasing the concentration of caffeine. The effects of pH, electrode composition, step potential, pulse amplitude and square wave frequency on the voltammetric response were thoroughly investigated, and it was found that 1,4- benzoquinone exhibits excellent behavior, intenns of very well-defined, reproducible voltammetric peaks for caffeine determination. The results enabled the measurement of the peak current of l,4-benzoquinone for the determination of caffeine content in coffee. Promising results were obtained for caffeine determination in real samples
